Saturday, July 23, 1955 " * Social Security Pa In Richland Count In Richland County at the end of last year 1,595 retired workers were receiving $84,918 in monthly social security payments, according to figures just released by W " H. Nixon, Social Security Administration district manager in Columbia, South Carolina. In addition to the retired workers themselves, 2,2260 people were receiving $76,365 a month as dependents of aged workers or as survivors of those who had died. I One of the changes in the law made it possible for the first time for the survivors of some worker* who "died after- 1939 and before September 1950 to qualify for payments. Nine out of ten mothers a n ei children in the entire country are now protected by old-age and survivors insurance and about half pi the children whose fathers have died now receive benefit payments In Richland County at enei of the year children made up 8 large group of beneficiaries; 1^6f of them were receiving $33,044 ir benefits per month.
