and Thursday, calling at the offices
af the Palmetto Leader on the latter
5day.
Dr. Patterson and Mr. Barnett
jvho hold appointments as special
. assistants to the United States
Secretary of Agriculture, visited
the General Agent of the Farm
Credit Administration at the Feder
al Land Bank here and the Regional
Administrator of the Soil Conservation
Service at Spartanburg,
whii# in South Carolina. The two
?men v.*o have visited every county
in the south in which there are as
many as 5D0 colored farmers, have
presented a comprehensive progam
to the Department of Agriculture,
looking toward making available
to Negro farmers the variois services
of the department. They have
nresented their plans to the state
administrators of each southern
state and sought their cooperation
before presenting their findings to
Washington.
Their conferences in Spartanburg
and Columbia were for the
purpose of securing additional
places for trained Negro Agriculturists
in the professional side of
soil conservation. In Coh mbia they

easy and long term credit brought
more definitely to Negro farmers
