He also attended the National Baptist convention w'hich corovened in Cleveland, Ohio, the second ?"week 1tt September. We reports a very successful meeting and an enjoyable time while there. Rev. Matthews, was honored at ?1 this meeting. He was appointed by the Home Mission Board as Evangelist of this Great National Body, Inc. ^ Rev. Mr. Goodwin was born in Ninequality, very quiet and possessed a fine disposition. He had a love ly home at 2354 Washington St. He Aas a faithful member and trustee at Bishop Memorial A. M. E. church: a member of the union and societies. Long; before time the churdh was filled tq its canacitv. The oituary was rend by Mrs. L. K. Nelson; resolutions and telegrams were read by Dr. L. A. The mother of Mr. Thackston was the late Mrs. Vashti Thackston, who CW for more than thirty years was a cook for the Cleveland family on E. Timothy 2:16. , Sunday found us at St. Matthew Rev. W. M. Green of West Columbia, pastor. The devotion was conducted by the senior deacon. Rev. Green then arose and took his text from Gen. 22:24, "And.Jacob was left alone and there wrestled a man witn mm uniu me urciiKin^ of day." From this text he preach ed a very good sermon. Everything was carried put just fine. Sunday was pastor's election day and Rev. Green was elected for anc/ther year without one on poser. Rev. A. L. Diggs was the acting chairman. I was told that that Rev. Green's salary was raised $75.00. You go on and do right rnd preach the gospel and don't worry, if the people want you they will take care of you.
