r~r '' Two __ THE OLD GRAY B, Rev. E. Philip Ellb. The Palmetto conference of the A. M. K. church which is holding session in Charleston this week is among the largest conferences in the denomination. The meetings are held. aA Eheuezer church. on Nassau street with Dr. D. N. Wilson, pastor host and Dr. J. E. Thomas presiding elder. This ~ conference does not only set the -pace for the other five ? conferences of our church but marly all of the conferences of the south. It is true also when it comes to subscribers for The Pamelto Lead er. We hope however that this will be the banner year for the church and also The "Leader.". The doings of this conference togeth er?with all?ministerial?asaignments will be released in our column next issue. We leg ret our inability to attend the official opening of Alien university, due to sudden attack of illness. We had ~i?.,~?.i v.,. : : ?# _..w Ijiai i vnc ui-|; inning ui uui ouu scriptions. So I am asking- all of our suscribers to be prepared to settle with us at your respective conference seat. Our company takes this method of thanking them in advance. ... . ChriStttias Seals Dr. J. W. Murph made a very appealing address to the ministers' union in its session last Mon ('ay in interest of the Christmas Seal Sales for this year. His speech was in keeping with the re attest Halsey secretary of the Pinchaven sanatorium here in Charleston county. Say what vnil will but nvury Vr?pn.n in *ViU state as well as those throughout ?America should - purchase?sealsthis year as never before. Wars : are raping " and training camps" are crowded all of which show the necessity of health protection. It is important to stir up our racial group to cooperate in this " movement; Having been a member of the state committee for several years places us Jn^ a ppsu. tiori to" say that "white people are ""far more responsive in aidine their people tu dispose u~~t seals than Negroes. Sad but nevertheless true quite a few professional Neproes pay no attention to this drive. We hope this year .will be an exception among Negroes the world over when it conies to buying seals. Dr. C. S. Ivodbetter is the worthy chairman of ' the city committee representing the union which is composed of outstanding ministers irrespec tive of denomination. The Union Our session' last Monday was one of interest from every angle. Dr. Jt. E. Brogden was at his post and presided with dignity. Dr. H. B. Jones our competent secretary was in his place. A round table discussion constituted the order of the day. Those mak ing fine talks were Revs. R. I. Lemony J. R. Pearson. J. E. Beard C. S. I.edbetter, William A. mack. L>. N. Wilson, the president secretary and others. At the close of this meeting: the A. M. E. alliance had a very fine session with Dr. R. I. Lemon president and Dr. D. N. Wilson, secretary. "Pulpit Decorum" was ably discussed by Dr. J. W. Murph. Greater St. Luke We closed our year's work last Monday night with colors flying. There is no better congregation to be found any where in this country than that of the above church. ThfV hgva?ever?beuir " faithful and it is_a pleasure- to be associated with such a group. The members have a' monument t Their credit in the new church edifice. Over three thousand dollars was raised in the last two quarters -for"" the trustees exclusively.
