- WAR AND WHITE PEOPLE
Whenever the country is in war
there is ulways a very friendly
relation between white and colored
people until it closes. During1
a state of war white people
are considerate of Negroes when
it comes to registration for both
ervice and defense. Of coarse
this is as it should be. But when
victory is achieved then it seems
that they have hatred in their
herirts for thost. who gave their
lives in defense of the country.
There is absolutely no need in the
world for white people to despise
Negroes. In the first place we
Unau; thnt ua Inna- ixu?\\r n a r**v Klnnlr
- we cun not expect socwd equality^
with the whites and do not want
it. CJod Almighty in the creation
made every creature different
from another. And everyone of
its kind is found together. Thi?is
true in the animal kingdom, the
. birds of the mir, the beasts of the
forest.- the . fislu's?m-thc srn;-nndevery
creeping insect is always
found among its kind. Man is no
exception to the rule. He is more
happy among his own race than
any other. There is one thing cer
tain the white ?nftn need not to
fear when it comes to Negroes be_
traying his country's secrets to
. foreign nations. Many have been
arrested for doing this a few
days ago but none of tnc-m were
Negroes. Those whom the white
people allowed to come in our
country from afar and pfctf-r Jbern 1
in superior^ J)&gitions that they
?3W#rf-cfaVe not give Negrbes are
giving them their greatest trolls
ble today. But the white people
can always remember that the Ne
gro stands ready to help them at
all times and only expect in return
equal consideration in accom
niodations and in justice at the
hands of the courts. This they
should have and God Himself is
not pleased with anything less.
Say what you. will but these times
show that there is something
wrong somewhere. To be con
tinued next week.
OL'K NEW CHURCH OPENING
St. I.ukf A. M. E. Church, Charleston,
is ia modern wonder to the
entire city. We had our opening
the second Sunday in Aug rst at
.which time President S. R. Higgins
of Allen university did not
only capture the city but the entire
low country in his messages
morning and evening. He ig a
prince among princes. Dr. J. G.
Dunbar of Morris Street Baptist
church stirred the city in his sermon.
that afternoon. Everybody
went away singing the praises of
this gifted man of God. Dr. D.N.
Wilson pleached a wonderful sermon
Tuesda evening. He can fill
any palpit in the denomination.
Dr. R. E. Brogden was out of the
city but sent his fine choir and
- congregation to us and they rendered
most excellent service. Rev.
Robert Doctor was at big best in
his message delivered |as a substitute
for Dr. Brogderi. Dr. J. W.
Curry, of Centenary preached one
of the greatest sermons we have
eve? heard. The mother thurch
has no better preadher in the denomination
than Dr. Curry. Dr.
R. L _ lemon of Morris, Brown
, church showed himself fit for a
bishop in his masterful sermon
Friday evening. Say what you
will but he wil be heard of up the
road. Dr. T. J. Miles of Columbia
spent one evening in the meeting
and in a few words brought the

and he will put members in the

AN IMPORTANT CALL
Dr. C. S. Iyedbetter, head of the
Christmas Seals Sales in Ctynr?leston
called his workers together
last week in conection with the
whites, and had a very fine meetr
ing. Mrs. V. T. Ellis president of

member of the state committee
I can truthfully say that Dr. Ledbetter
is among the beat chairmen
L. the state has. He is riot only a
? first class preacher, educator and
P~ Christian gentleman but is among
the most highly respected citizen
K' of thif, city irrespective of race or
