S. degree in home economies. Today she is home demonstration ageQt in Aiken county, directing, through 16 home demonstration club$, tho^ ^activities of 576 women. ?r The recreational 4-H canip \vhich_ is held annually was conducted at the Palmetto Park just aeross the?bridge in South Carn^^Jinu recently, with rn attendance ^^jf 50 boys and girl? from all over Aiken county. The camp was in charge of George M. T. Dowdy, farm ager.t, who was absent when this reporter visited the camp, and MISS MABEL T. SHELTON Mul-l T. Shelton, home demonstration agent. It was meal time when we arrived in camp. The youngsters were fed wholesome, well-cooked food. They crowded in to get it but thev were having such a good f time they couldn't eat it. They craved the water in the pondT the* playground, and you can take it from me they ate in record time. "Each child furnished his awn food, and we furnished his transportation to camp," Miss Shelton, revealed, "and there is really jiot ^kjiiuch more" to it. In order for "them ^Vto qualify to come to camp they must complete a definite project and it must come up to certain qualifications. The boys and girls here are from the sections of Wag ?-ner, "Ocean Grove, Red Hill, Sally and Ridge Spring, S. C." Mabel Shelton Increases Clubs During the first month of employment she furthered her training in extension by attending a short course of Farm and Home Demonstration agentc at Hampton Institute for u p?r;o 1 of three weeks. Immediately upon her return, she made r complete, surw y of the county including 18 communities ^fcwith the assistance of the farm ^^agent, G. T. Dowdy. The two clubs sthat were added are: Ashley Grove Club, president, Mrs.- Ellie Washington; and the Montmorenci Club, president, Mrs. Australia Copeland. - There are 15 organized 4-H clubs functioning in the. county wth a totiil attendance of *275 _ members. ] When Mable Shelton b('f>"", work n the county, the mattress m-oieet hointr develoned. Nine ^months?later she assisted . tbv. county extension workers in setting up nine centers for both white and colored. Approximately i 450 mattresses have been made and 450 comforts, half of which were received by colored people. Live at Home Program Underway In addition t0 the regular program, the "Live At Home" prograni has been in active progress during 1114(3-41." 1 niS |J1uki alll Is outlined to assist our farm people to" live more at home by produc ing more food and feed on the farm. ? .^:*1 1 1 i [Nine communities nave urganized to promote such with, a ; total of 54 local leaders and 20<J de ficlent clients pledging to increase from 1 to 9 the following items: corn, garden, poultry, permanent i pasture and annual grazing pasture, white potatoes, sweet pota toes, milk cows, hogs and syrup. Thrity six meetings in reference have been conducted. Six meat cutting, curing and canning de monstrations were given. Sixteen ? cheese mailing dc^jOnstratlons conducted and nine home milling and baking demonstrations were conducted and one county tour in keeping with the better farm family living program was con ducted wit^ the attendance of 76 people. CHEAT FALLS NEWS | The Pine Grove LViptist church held a very successful revival from August 6-L5. It was conjducted by Rev. C. H. Lunde o f"j Leeds, S. C. He really preached soul stirring sermons throughout the meeting. There weren't any j souls, added to the church but all' the Christbana strength were re- 1 newed. The following choirs rendered harmonious music: Long Run, Mt. Zion, Great Falls, Pleasant Grove Rock Hill, Lancaster Co.; Gladden Grove, Russell and Mt. Zion, ? Winnsboro. Rev Dawkins delivered the message to an appreciative audience from St John 14:3: And if I go and prenare a place for you, I will come : gain and receive you unto myself. The message was inspiring and full of information. At 3:30 Rev. Hudson and his good people of Stevens Grove A. M. F,. Zion church worshiped at the above named church with Rev. Dawkins and his congregation. Rev. Hudson preached a wonderful sermon from I Peter 4:4 and preached as never before. The Live-Wire club met at the heme of Mrs. Shaw on Rencon St. at 5 o'clock. Mrs. Lillie Subei president, presided. All members and friends enjoyed themselves.
