RIDGEWOOD CAMP NEWS
~Having been connected with the
- ^Ttidgewood camp for more than
seven years I have seen many is
cases of tuberculosis that have y
made lasting impressions upon t<
me. Here is one case I would T
like to share with the readers of a
this column.
- ?In Columbia a few years ago a ii
"young man of ubuut twenty-four
years decided to live more sober
life so he married the girl of his 1
choice. After being married and u
^^^ettled down to family life, he ^
' and his wife became the proud
parents of a fine baby boy." This
proud father pledged himself to ~
the support of his family and ,
promised that his son would have
a better chance at the good things Q
of life than he or his wife had. s
During this enjoyable period he .
spiration of his lovely family car- ^
rlefl "htm on when indtrzy man v
would quit working. Conditions v
with him got worse until he had . (
to lay off from work. In the g
mean time he was taking plenty f:
of patent medicines and home c
remedies that the neighbors were 1
telling him about. When he still s
lingered and getting worse all the ,
time he went to a doctor and was ,1
^ examined. The diagnosis of the c
doctor showed that he had an ad- *
wanee case of tubereulosis._ The c
^Bdoctor advised sanatorium for
_Whim. .?
On bein admitted to the camp ' ^
the young man was quite despondent
yet he cherished the idea t
that he would soon resume his |
loving and faithful wife would jn
come out to see him. One could j,
see that because of worry and ex-J^
ertion, shq. too was failing.
The young man lost Hhe fight i
-with death, making his wife a
widow and his child fatherless, 111
#Many times we wondered why (^
fate wps so cruel to this young v
man, who was an asset to hii-)1
inanity, while there are so many E
people who are linbilities^and are . ^
undoing the work of iseful men 111
and women. 4^
' s
Wedding bells are ringing, 1 t
young <and hopefuT"?"ouples are n
announcing their marriages. Let c

Oh may the day hasten) when ('
the eradication of tuberculosis
will take place. We can do our
part by seeing our doctor at reg- 1
ular intervals for a check-up. If
we find ourserves slipping by hav- i ,v

digestive disturbance, no pep, ^
easy to get fatigue, a cough that
hafigs on, etc. go directly to your
family doctor or the nearest tu- +

to decide. They will be glad to s
advise you. s
This reporter regrets very much a
the omission of the name of Mrs, f
C. A. Johnson from the list of the s
members of the execlutive com- ii
