All of the charges made excellent^ reports * on the educational money collected for Allen University. Many paid their assesments for the year. Among the visitors were Drs. J. E. Beard and R. JsT. Brogdon of lfie~ Kdisto district;- Drs, T. J. Miles, J. C. Quarles, Revs. M. B. Geathers and George Washington of the Georgetown cKstrict and Rev.. S. Middleton c/f the Kingstrce district. All made thought ful and inspiring addresses to the conference. Dr. Miles in his mas terly address anounced that he is still in the race for the Bishopric in 1944. of Morris Brown church, Charleston announced that he is now-'in the race for the Bishopric in 1944 Rev. R. E. BrogdorL pastor of Emanuel church, Charleston also announced that he is still in the race for the Bishopric uu 1944^ I The host church gave a welcoming program Thursday night to which Mrs. Sara Lewis of Jamestown, responded. Mrs. V. Murray district president of the Missionary Societies made an address to the conference im the subject What the People are Doing for Missions Throughout the District. It was very inWirijlf', -i-i-. i It was said by many that it was one of the best conferences that was ever held on the district Every thing shows that the district is making a wonderful progress under the Presiding Eldership of Dr. Thomas. The whole district is proud of their great eaaer. a presentaticm from the district to the presiding elder was nade by the reporter. The elder n a few chosen words thanked the lumbers of the district. The District conference was roy illy and hospitably entertained at the church and their homes by the Pastor, Rev. E. D. Hutchinson and the good members and friends of the Buck Hall charge. D. N. Williams, which was very interesting. The morning services were begun by the choir singing Shine on me. First hymn O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing; prayer by Bro. McCojnbs. The choir slang a selection! and the second hymn was lined and sung. Go fcrrth ye Heralds In My Name. Rev. Williams used the fifth verse of the fourth chapter of Ephesians for his text: One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. Subject; 'The one great need of Christianity. As he preached amers were heard in every corner of the church. Let us pray for this young--man to live long to preach the gospel. Ho concluded?by singinu Well hold my hand,-while I run this race. The Holy Communion" followed. Collection was normal. Sister Mary Clinkacale joined the churdh. Mr. and Mrs. Marshal Belcher attended the commencement exerpiqAQ rtf f school beginning last week and ending June 5th. Their two daughters Miss Jennette and Ethel being members of the graduating class. Others .. attending were Mrs. C. B. McCcrmbs, Mr David Belcher, Earl Belcher, Henrietta Dennis, Lettie Marshel, H. Dun-1 lap and Andrew Wheeler. Rev. Williams?presented our girls gift from the S. S., also one from Mr. and Mrs. Dunlap. We are proud of our girls. Misses Sarah Belcher, Carrie Be lie-Coving ton -and Miss Francis -Dubose, are still on- the siek list. The farmers of our community were proud to see the rain, so many haven't finished planting. It has been dry for sometime. June 15?Bro. Lucious Scott was funeralized here. He passed Thursday evening at the age of 52. He was a member of Hcrckford for a number of years, Rev. Williams delivered eulogy from the text Job 16:22: When a few years are come, then 1 shall go jthw way whence shall nut TC=" turn. E. church at College -Place, which was burn down several months ago will lay at 3:30 p.m. The services will be conducted by the Masons of Columbia. The Rev. T. L. Duckett of Benedict college will be the master of ceremony and Dr. W. B, L. Clarke, presiding elder of the Columbia district will be the principal speaker. Mrs. Eliza Castor will make the welcome address and the Rev. "JTTJ. Rates will make interesting remarks concerning the origin of the church. Several choirs will furnish the music and it is anticipated that large crowds from Colunr* bia and other near vicinities will attend in large numbers. The Rev. J. N. Sunday night his text was selected from Proverbs 10:1, subject. The Importance of Respecting Father. In ccmnecUon-with the night sermon a very good program was rendered honing the Fathers. At 7 o'clock Miss Mary Whitner presented the pastor who open ed the League's topic. Many points were brought out. At -J o'clock the Missionary so cety met at the home of Mrs Alice Trapp. After the business was over a lively topic was discussed, namely - The Negro and -Defense. The group was served: The Stewardess Bg/ird No. 1 m,et at the home of Mrs. L. A. Hollings -Friday. June 13th. _ A very good program was rendered.. The Pulpit Aid board met at the - parsonage June 9th. After the business was over a unique program was rendered which was enjoyed by all. The group was served by Mrs. Alice Jackson._ CALVARY A. M. E.
