I i
It appears to me that at such
a time as this our state should
urge the necessity of a more cor- t
-dial relation with ail flll wise j
Providence, instead of passing a
law legalizing Sunday nj.ovi.es. s
- Petitions \yeiit before the propel l
authorities protesting against
, such an enactment. On the pthei
hand there were many who were \
in favor of the passage of such ,
... a law. The Ministers Union of j
which I am a member drafted
strong resolutions against the
measure. Even among us some "
were in favor of it. Both sides i
were ably represented. But after
all the law. prevailed to the sad '<
rgret of quit*. a few of us and I
am in that number. Others may
sec ditTerent but as Tor me that <
law seems to be strictly against
inc tout ui wiiimaiiuiiiciiv wiiiwii
\%*as given by God Himself. Now
T have no civicism for those who
see- dirtcren*But what I~ cannot i
understand is what day is to be
kept for holy rest and spiritual
improvement. Jesus Christ observed
a day of rest, and communion
with His God, We learn
in Holy "Writ" that God worked
six days and rested on. the sev
enth. But in keeping with the
law made possible for the three
counties in this state including
that of Charleston that day i s
blotted out and we are privileged
to work all the days and gfive-God_ _
none. Well I cannot see it that
way and while others can do as
they will pi may. I?am going to_
preach Sabbath conservation and
zrrr-"- that one- day out -of -seven -belongs
to God. Six days shalt thou
Labor jand do all thy _work, but
the seventh day is the Sabbath of
the Lord Thy God, etc.
A i.rand occasion
Stf. I.uke' s coiner stone laying I

occasion that will never be forgotten
in the city_of Charleston.
People of nil denominations both

exercises that aftrnoon. The Free
and Accepted Masons with Mr. S. "

' master in charge performed ? the ceremonies
which made a lasting
: inep'essnm?upaa_-ike vast audience.
Mr. ^omsette certainly
knows how to make Masons shine
on a program. All brothers of the
Craft were out in full and played
well their parts, making an ever
lasting name for themselves and
the " grand old Order. Prior- t o
their performance the . Ministers
Interdenominational Union coning
with the pastor's request. The
program in part follows:
Presentation of the Union's
president, Dr. R. E. Brogdon by
Dr.. D. N. Wilson. Dr. Wilson
was at his ~best and reflected
_ credit upon himself. "Djv Brogdons
address was a masterpiece to sdy
the least. Speakers for the occasion}
were: Dr. C. S. Ledbetter,
who electrified his audiertce a s
only he can. Dr. J. W. Curry made
the hit of his lifd in hismatchless
address and Dr. J. C. Dunbar cap
lured the entire audience?in?his ?
address. Dr. S. H. Scott offered
a fervent prayer, followed by the

furnished by Jenkins Orphanage
