The annual financial drive to ob
tain funds for liquidating the indebtedness
of Phyllis WheatljTv
Center begins November 18th and
ends December 9th, According to
plans that were announced' last
week, persons who contribute one i
dollur or more in this effort will I
receive* bonds suitable for framing!
or being kept otherwise in order
to show what they have done in
this community improvement cam
paign. The bonds will be issued
in denominations of one, five.^and
ten dollars.
A series of brief programs by
various city and county organizations
is slated to end Monday,
December 9th. And at that time
the complete report of money
raised during the drive will be
made. '
The Center has undoubtedly been
one of the positive factors in the
development of social work i n
Greenville and Greenville county
Some activities, such as scouting,
community musical units,* athletics,
and recreation, although they
are now carried on by other groups
or agencies as well1, were started
and proved useful at Phyllis
Wheatley Center; _Let's all work
to make the Center's 16th anniversary

Mr. John Chappelle, affectionate
ly known as "Uncle Jack," one of

county was funeralized at White
Plains Sunday. Rev. Barton officiated.
A large crowd of sorrowing
relatives and friends were
present to pny a last tribute of
respect to Mr. Chappelle who had 1
been an active member and of
fleer for 60 years.
Although Friday was one of
the coldest days of the winter
thus far, many were out to witness
the pageant "King Solomon's
Wives" at St. Paul church that
night. Mrs. Mary Scott had the
highest amount, was crowned his
favorite. It was quite success- '
ful. Mrs. Pauline Sullivan and
Mrs. Mary Whitener are grateful ?
to members of all the churches
for their cooperation.
