When the whistle blows, giving
the signal for the kick-off in the

Saturday at 2 o'clock, it is expected
that thousands of spectators
wjll be gathered at Hurst
Athletic Field to see these two
great tetms exhibit their strategems
for the first time during
the 1940 season. Morris Brown
comes to Columbia with an enviable
grid iron reputation, which
she in no .wise intends to have
besmirched by her sister African
Methodist Episcopal rival. For
many years she has been. in the
top ranks among Southern Conference
schools. I?i the mean time.

Allen's fortunes this year are in
the hands of Thomas "Hooks"
Nelson, former Allen star quarter

under Toney Sivinton,?who because
of other duties deemed it
advisable to relinquish the coach*
i ing post. Nelson has us his first
assistant William "Buster" Lawson,
also a fojrmer Allen star.
Former coaches Toney Swinton
and Herbert IJaumgardner are issisting
in an advisory capacity.
Veterans who are expected to
come through with splendid performances
in - Saturday's tilt are
William Brown, Alonza McDonald,
Grady Butler, Nathaniel Heme,
Clyde Richirds, Clifford Taylor,
Robert Ford, Ben and John Starkey.
A boy named Walter Rhett
will bear watehmxy and may convo

in the guard position and may do
much to crumble Morris Brown's
far-famed "Seven Blocks of Granite."
