Sullivan, Principal The school bell that summons almost two hundred children to their class rooms on- Mon.,* June 1, where they received their report cards, and were served a delicious repast b^. their., teachers; marked the close "of" dne of Taylor School's most ..successful terms. The closing exercises pleased the audiences and reflected credit upon those by whopv- they were presented. The seventh grade, of which Mr. Sullivan is instructor, presented their drama, "Adventurous Ann," April i8. This was a high day at Taylor School and its memory will linger with those present. The Second and Third grades presented "Max and His Music U,w " OA Mioa T V teacher. First Grade presented "Cinderella," May 28, Miss C. F Boulwaro, teacher. Fifth and Sixth grades presented "The Apple," Mtay 31, Miss V. King, teacher.. On Sunday , May 26, Dr. Frank Sells, instructor at Columbia Bible College, preached the Edueatonal Sermon. This sermon was vivid and instructional, including illustrations and appropriate "pictures. Dr. Sells has rendered service to Taylor School the first Monday in each month iof the year. The lectures on these occasions have taken the place of regular devotions. The parents have also been favored with lectures on several Sunday afternoops. Many have accepted Christ" in the services and the pupils'' interest 'n.learning Bible verses have been stimulated. The pupils' health have reeeiv d attentioq in order to reduce absentees caused by illness-. They have received dental treatment at 4>e school- and office of _Dr. Pride. JIhose suspected were tested foi hookworms.' They were1 also favored with movies relative to health, through the courtesy of the County ..Health Dept. ?On^he?final night,- Mr.?G:?M. Lockwood, Supt. of Olympin Schools for 17 years, made his final remarks before embarking up on his new field as f^upt. of the Lancaster Schools. He paid compliment to Mr. Sullivan and his staff. Mr. Francis Thomas, a prominent resident of Taylors, re sponded in a very pleasing manner. Gunter entertained the teachers of the Rosenwald school also Mr. Minnaugh Amos on Wednesday at her lovely home with a tea. It was enjoyed greatly by those present at this affair. Mrs. 'Sallie Lue Walker and little daughter have returned to Jacksonville, PMa., after a visit to her father, Mr. Pollard Hall and other relatives and friends. Miss Corrie Jell McKie left on Funday for New York City to spend the summer. Miss McKie is a 1940 graduate of Bettis academy.. Prof, and Mrs. R. N. Smith are visiting relatives in Raleigh, N.C. Mr and Mrs. William Graham announce the birth of a son May 24, He has been named William Jr. Mr. Sam Ross is a reader of the "Leader*. ZION HOPEWELL * BAPTIST CHURCH \ Sunday was a beautiful day a? Zion Hopewell Baptist church. A large audience was present. S. S opened at the usual hour with th?> Supt., 1. S. Collins and his teachers at their post of duty. The lesson was Oeauiilully uiughi by Mil's; Marshal and Mr. J; W. Stev enson. Children's Day at our church Sunday and Mrs. Michell was in charge ~of the program. The audience was very much pleased with the wonderful and 'interesting program. The little pupils just played their part well. We also had with us the Little River choir who sang very splendidly. A quartet from )St. Petei and another from St. Matthew church were also present and rendered numbers. We thank the pa rents and community and friends and invite you with us. again. The pastor asks that the parents cooperate with him and have their children in the morning service at 01 by 11:15 A. M. There will be specialseats reserved for them. For the morning service the pastor delivered the message from St. John 5: 6, A full congregation enjoyed the message. We shall celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday in June All of the activities of the day shall be conducted by men. W. A. MAXWELL PASSES Gourdine Circuit News Rev. S. J. MMlett, Pastor Furreral rites were held foi Rev. W. A. Maxwell, who departed this life, Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. May 26, 1910. Born in 1 in WiHinmhrvjr Conntv I^inp he was the son of Mr. Randall and Mis. Elise Maxwell, and leaves marvy friends to mourn his eternal exodus. He proceeds his father and three brothers to the grave. His high school course was completed at Downing Town, Pa., May 22, 1012, afterwhich he entered Lincoln University, Pa., where he took his theological studies, which were completed or April 20. 1015. From then up tc the time of his death he has work ed for the church and God. He was pastoring at Embrey AME Church, Edisto District, Charleston, S. C. The - community will miss him. We love you but God loved you best. He leaves to mour his loss a mother, three sisters, and five brotheis: Elsie Maxwell, mother T.ane, S. C.. sisters Rhoda Rennel 7)7 Lane.
