By C. A. Chick, Instructor in Econ?mics.

One does not need to ho an oru?dtte
S lintnr or research worker to
ho cognizant <2f. what is, and ' has
boon for sometime, taking place
in Rural' America: The automobile,
no longer an urban luxury,
nor electricity or many of the
other modern conveniences and
luxuries that formally were
thought of as belonging to the
urban centers only. The road improvement
is. also an important
factor. The <mi. mill" hvn.t<mclii?
schools a 10 rapidly giving away
to the consolidated schools and
all the modern conveuLcu^iec*?^Ixorc
with, including transportation foi
students and' b< tter trained teach7
co s. -Indeed no longer are the rural
districts looked upon .as places
where one learns how to teach
and then secures an urban posi- j
tion. Our rural teachers compare
favorably with; our urban teachers.
Many of the states are raisin?
tluyir standards for teachers
certification and nil teachers are
? required to conform thereto.
Thipo tire many other improve
incuts?that spnu1 will not permit
me to mention.
But alas the tenders of many
of our rural churches seemingly
want improvements in everything
ratal except the, churches. If the
rural?churches- are going to keep
pace and hold jjrterest of the younger
and more intelligent element
in the community, many of them
of necessity me-st consolidate.
It is generally agreed by specialists
in Religious Education
and church problems that a community
must have at least n thous
and people in order for a church
have a "worthwhile program? In
cite of the "New Deal" efforts
from the standpoint of number?
as well as finance.
According; to ihis standpoint

to rehal ilitate people in the rural
? districts, eaeh yo.ub findp more
