' The Baton Rouge Community ?was saddened greatly by the death of one of its residents on Sept. 30, Mrs. Sattie Addison Sanders, wife of the late Saul Sanders, passed to .the great beyond after only a few days illness. She was a member of the Bethlehem Bapt. Church' but later became a member of Zion Pilgrim Church of Wilkesburg. She was a woman of a quiet disposition, true and loyal, a loving friend and a devoted Christian. She was loved by all who knew her and was funeralized at the Bethle-1 hem Baptist Church, Rev. ,Wm.' Willie though young had many friends among the colored and white people of St. Matthews. So well that he was loved for his honesty, industry and fV_ delity that the Finn Pearlstine Co. closed their business and attended the funeral. Willie was only 21 years, old, but he had the sense und business of a man 50. It would do anybody good to talk with him; at all times was business with Willie. St. Matthews has lost a promising young man The remains of Rey. Nickell were deposited at Bethel A. M. E. church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Da vid Mitchell officiated. Misses Wise, Barber, Gist, Ruff have returned to work. All o f these ladies hold positions in the public school. ' Prof. Vance and Floyd aftei having spent a very pleasant sum mer have returned to work in the city schools. - The many friends of Mrs. Idono Grier would regret to hear that she is indisposed at this writing Mrs. Ella Pelzier who had been here visiting her grandmother ("Gam") who is on the sick list has returned home. Mrs. Ethel Elrod of New York is here spending some time with her father Mr. Philip Shuler. Mr. Lee Ford who is attending Allen University was home last weeK on Dusiness. The writer, along with Prof, and Mrs. Robert Burgess motored to Columbia on last Wednesday. Miss Laconia Waddy who is a student of Allen University was home last Thursday. Everybody is getting ready for the final rally Sunday at Bethel A. M. E. church. Bro. Solomon Guinyard was out to services Sunday to the delight of his many friends. Miss Hennie Owens has gone to her school, everybody Wishes her a successful school term. Miss Ow ens is one of the best church workers m Bethel AME church. M iss Marie Caldwell tho efficient organist of Bethel A.M.E. church has also gone to her school. She is another good church worker. D. Kelly. These meetings were held to discuss our XYZ program.1 This term 1939.40 is erur Z.year and each school in the county will have for its Center of Interest the Home. E. Zion church Sunday. Rev. H.E. Hillian preached his farewell sermon for the year from Isaiah 6:8. The message was well taken. The spiritual j part was hi~h and the financial I ??? - side was good. SELLERS CHAPEL BAPTIST CHURCH The ,S- S. opened at 9:30 with th? Supt. in charge. A splendid session was held. At 11 a.m. morning service began. Janerette^ and .little Albert Beatty motored to Hyman to at ' tend the association. At 7:30 we again assembled and witnessed another strong sermon which wa? enioved. Friends and visitors worshiped with us. Mr. Charlie Bell Wilson, Mr. Arthur Godbolt made pop call to Marion with Mr. and Mrs I.acv Abram Sunday afternoon. . "Mrs. Halls hftve returned from the hospital and is getting along very nicely. Mrs. Ella Ervin her sister is nursing her. Rev. Halls, choir and congregation rendered service at Mount Zion A. M. E. church on the 16th inst. SUMTER COUNTY TEACHERS* ASSOCIATION MEET The meeting was held in Lin_ coin High School auditorium Sat., urday, Oct. 7th, Mrs. Ruth Din. kins, president, presided. After a lively opening, the president made some remarks giving outline for the order of the day. After which in well chosen words she presented Prof. C. A. Lawson, principal of Lincoln High school, guest speaker, wh^ electrified his hearers from ?he subject: Christian Teachers in the Public Schools. We hope that the seed will bring forth abundant fruit to the glory of God and the good of humanity. Financial report from the A. chievement JDay program was read by Mrs. Minnie Benbow, the secretary of the committee and the proceeds which were held by the treasurer Rev.
