Saturday, October 14, 1939 Mrs. Julia Thomas of 1013 Pine street is leaving on September 31 for New York City to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Marie Btadluy of 1878?7th Ave. Her son Arthur is already there in school where he successfully made his grade. Miss Inei. Martin has returned ^ home after spending quite some time visiting her uncle, Mr. Samuel Roberson in Bellaire, Ohio. While away she als0 visited some friends in New York City and attended the World's Fair. Miss Martin reports a pleasant and a well spent. summer, Bethel Church ln Columbia had its last quarterly conference Monday night. The Stewards and the Trustees petitioned for the return :r ~ .X'of its pastor, Dr. W. B. L. Clark and also its new Presiding Elder the Rev. H. D. Ramsey. The business of the conference was very satisfactory" to all concerned, and the Rev. Ramsey left happy over the financial success. To say the least, 'Dt. Clark has done a most phenominal Work at Bethel Churcti this year. 1.. Mrs* Sallie E. Af: ter the devotion the house was opened for business by the Presi dent* Mr. Eaddy. The party that was given October 4 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy was discussed. We wish to thank our friends for cooperating with us. We had a wonderful time. The en tire house was fulled to its capacity. Our club has progressed for the last few months with the administration of the new president Mr. Lawrence Eaddy. 'After busi ness the roll was called. Amount of collection $16.30. We adjourn ed to meet at the home of Mr. ,. and . Mrs. Eaddy. The hostess served delicious sandwiches, cake and punch. LUCKY BIRD SOCIAL CLUB The Lucky Bird Social club met at the home of Mrs. Isabelle _ Joyner 511 Marion street. The meeting waR called to order -by Mrs. (Marie Pollock with a song which she led; prayer by Mr. Boyce; song by Mrs. Kennedy; sqriflture lesson by Mrs. L. B. Garrick; song by Mrs. H. Johnson which brought our devotional ser vice to a close. Sick committee report all up and on the go. Un-( finished business was taken up and discussed also new business. The roll was called by the secretary. Our next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Marie Pollock 500 Main street. The club was entertained by a program as follows: song by Mrs. Kennedy; recitation. Mrs. Jessie Bowers; song by Mrs. G. Norris; remarks ..Mr. Kennedy; song by Mr. Ned Hmes; remarks by Mr. Sam Williams; poem, Mrs. Hattie_Johnson; Bible verses by Mrs. Lillie B. SURPRISE BIRTH NIGHT PARTY A Surprise Birthnight Party was given at-the-home of Missj Eva Johnson and Mrs. Lucile (Rich ! ardson 1007 W. Lanvalle St., Oct. ) 7th in honor of Mrs. Zippirah Glenn Gantt. The living room was i I very beautifully arranged. Invit-h ing the guests into the dining loom were Mr. George Gantt and Miss L. Johnson. Aftei 9 return from a three nuur me guesi of honor was brought m by Mrs. Essie Ruff; in the jining room she was greeted by a surprising group with their merry song: "Happy birthday." At an exquisitely arranged table spread with a -lovely ccyver and centered with a beautifully iiranged bowl of pink roses and birthday cake decorated with pink candles; candle salad, candv, ^potato chips, saitcd peanuts and Soft drinks we'e served. The evening was spent playing cards. - - * * BIRfHDAY 1'AftTY Philadelphia.?Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Thompson, of 2330 N. 12th St. gave a lovely birthday party in honor of their daughter Miss Shirley Thompson. About fifteen children and many useful gifts were given to Miss Thompson. The children enjoyed themselves. Mrs. Thompson served ice creaan and punch. The childien went home happy and rejoicing and wished Miss Thompson many irjore happy birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. John G. Anderson of 1638 N. Miss Green enter, tained more than thirty friends Lovely music was furnished by Mr. Edgar Williams-and Mr. William Carter. Many beautiful pre8. ents were received. Some of the guests present were "Mr. Simons Laury, Miss Lovella Entzminger Mr. James Moultrie, Miss Florence Entzminger, Miss Earnestine Anderson, Mr. Solomon Deas, Mr William Herrin, Mr. Dontild Chap, pelle, Miss Mary E. The ~ guests expressed themselves as having a very pleasant evening and the happy group sang together to Miss Green and wishing her many and many more returns of the year. BIRTHDAY PARTY GIVEN Miss Matilda Hamilton gave a very lovely and enjoyable Birthday Party Thursday, Oct. 5th at her home, 2540 Cherry St. Many beautiful presents were received during the evening. Tables "of Whist, were played also several other games/ ' Guests were served wine and ice cream, cake and after dfnner mints salted peanuts, cookies and chicken salad sandwiches. More than 30 persons were present. All expressed themselves as having a very enjoyable evening, wishing Miss Hamilton many more happy birth days.
