Saturday, September 9, 1939. BETHLEHEM BAPT. CHURCH Rev. A. P. Porter, Pastor Barnwell, 45. C.?Last Sunday *** w<as a high day at the nhove named church. Rev. Porter ascended the rostrum at 11:30 sharp, using for a text Genesis 22:10. The spirit was very high and the members in their gestures were very enthusiastic over the sermon. An "unusually large crowd was served communion. Affcer the services -Dr. Dixon, chairman of the Deacohs' board, called the attention of the pastor and church relative to an appeal from our beloved President, H. H. Butler to raise $5,000 on the 26th of September and he is requesting every \hurch in the state to bring at least $5.00 to represent their church at Morris college on the 26th. In 5 minutes or perhaps less, Bethlehem had laid on the table $8.00. An unusual crowd was present at the Sunday school, and the les son was beautifully taught. Subject?Isaiah: "A Life Dedicated to God". Our pastor, Rev. A. P. Porter, reviewed the lesson and we all enjoyed it very much. At -the conclusion of the Sun. school sister Green, the assistant superintendent and one of the senior missionaries, * reassembled the young folk and underthe auspices of our pastor, organized a Junior Missionary society with an unusual crowd of young women. He beautifully portrayed the life of Joseph. Prof, and Mrs. C. G. Garrett of Columbia worshipped with us on Sunday Prof. Garrett addressed the Sunday school and also delivered a masterly address in the regular services Mrs. Garrett followed with a very fine speech, which was indeed interesting. 7:30 the League met with Mrs. Anna McFarlin presiding.
