-^Lunceford a "Killer"
?In College
K ' When Jimmie Lunceford's Orllchestra
brings the School of Jazz11
nocracy to Columbia on March 17
i at the Auditorium, he will be acI
companied by a set of rhythm
I masters who have been acclaimed
I favorites on campuses from "bor
I <?er to border and coast to coast.'"
I Further than that, he even drew
I raves after playing a hop at the
I University in Oslo, Norway. Arne
Ivan Erpekum Som wrote in the
Tidtns Tegn next day: "Such a
; ohow, such--a playing ~ and such
?fun there has never been in the
, University Hall before!"
At Williams, Duke, Northwestern,
the University of Chicago,
Cornell, the University of Texas,
^ Harvard and the rest of the almost
unending list of colleges
Lunceford has played, he draws
ecstatic comment from the cam*3*
pus sciifces who go to watch and
report. That is why hn rlrnpn his
New Yolk night club engagements
ma and his radio programs at the bean(
ginning of each year to play Junou1
ior Proms?and he plays more Ju_e,
nior Proms than any other band
ou. leader in America. His style o f
^5 rhythm and music is guaranteed
aj| to break up that never-ending poker
game in the fraternity houses
teJ and ta draw even the most asoyC
cial "goon" in any sorority out
n0 for an evening of jive.
wj True to its tag. "School of Jazz
nocracy," tert of the men in Lunceford's
band are college graduates,
with degrees ranging from Bachelor
of Art"- a11 t*1" "my np?trr
is Trumpeteer,. Eddie-Tompkins de"
ar gree of Doctor of Medicine. And
th in keeping with the band's record
Jimmie's wife, Chrvstal, jg n-m-lr.
lw lhg on a Master's degree in edu^
Lcation and majerrtrrg in Psycholof<
gy at Columbia University.
f( The band was formed while
Jimmie was studying at Fisk Uni
versity. No doubt that is the rea
y son his swingy music has never
* lost the flavor of the ultimate in
3' campus sophistication.

She went right up to the

And asked thern to help her make

And now each day as the hours'

She watches her students
With a wishful eye;
We are proud of her work
And I know you are too,
So encourage her on
Until the WORK is through.
Where ever you are
