home at Hartsville to be interred. ,

Hill was buried Sunday after a
short duration of illness. Mrs.
Johnson was the sister of Jas
Fleming and the late Mrs. Ida
Edwards. Rev. F. W. Prince the
pastor of Pee Dee Union Baptist
church had charge of Mrs. Johnson's
funeral services.

observations while attending the

the pastor's subject was "Lov

message he used the'Subject When
God Get's Tired of You. Both
messages were well prepared and
delivered.

We had one week of get-together
services. The'opening ser
mon was preached by Rev. B. S.
Sally followed by Rev. Hampton
of-the Parlorsville circuit. Rev.
Gallashaw was late at the next ser
vice so Rev. Hampton did the
preaching. The next evening Rev
Gallashaw preached a wonderful
sermon Then met with us on
Thursday night. Rev. J. W. Demore
of the Mt. Olive
church. At the end of the week
Rev. Paul Carmichael. These ser

vices were preliminary to the installation
of Rev. P L. Welfare as
pastor. On Sunday Rerv. J. M.
Felder preached the installation
sermon Rev. R. J. Jefferson
preached at 3:30 and Rev. J. M.

good and the services were the
best we have had in the last five

Miartha Wilson. The congrega
tion along with the pastor wish
to thank this board for this lovely
contribution. Mrs. Pearl Hou
ser is the very wide-awake and
efficient president.
Sunday afternoon at 3:30 the
pa:.tor and congregation were in
vited over to?St. Paul Baptist _
church to take part in the installation
services there. Rev. Jefferson
tried himself. Many said .
the sermon he preached was better
than any they had heard yet.
His subject was: "Three Announcements
and Three Promises
From Jesus Christ". The choir
accompanied him an.d furnished
excellent music.
The choir meets each Thursday
for rehearsal. At our last rehearsal
the cnoir was ^organized.
The officers are as follows: President

The second contest of the Piedmont
Declamation and Dramatic
League was held at Clinton on
February 13. Our school was rep
resented -in dramatics by Mamie
Black and by Minnie Kennedy who
won second place with a declamation.
Our high school play "The
_Road_7d The iCity" was presented
on Monday evening at eight
o'clock. Those who were present
enjoyed a dramatic treat. The
characters came from the following
classes: 11th grade, Arthur
Kellar, William Mims and Mary
Ruth Pressley; 10th grade, Carlie
Minnette Brown, Rosa Lee
Harris, Rachel Kellar and Juanitit
Walker; 9th grade, James Rob
ert Hughey; 8th grade, Eula Alice
McKellar.
We were very pleased to have
visitors from Greenwood, Ander
son, and other nearby towns to
witness the play. ,
Our next P.T.A. meeting will be

men has been mifch indisposed
with a touch of influenza.

N. C., were week end visitors at
home.
The layment of the Spartanburg
district A. M. E. church met Monday
at Carlisle and gave their endorsement
to Mr. E. N. Williams
of this city, for election at Lexington
to the general conference
which convenes in Detroit, Michigan
in 1940.
Mr. Williams is one of the lead-1
ing laymen of the district, a gradl
uate of S. C. State college and
has servel very efficiently as the
county farm agent since 1928. He
is a beUever in his church and
aside from being a regular attendant,
he is a class leader,
steward and generous supporter
of the program of the church in'
its entirety. It is the opinion of
all the members of Bethel church
his friends and the citizens of
Union,, that the Electoral college
would not- make a mistake to elect
thi* young man. A vote for
Mr. Williams will assure the
church a fine service.

spent the week-end- in Union
while the Reverend was holding
conference in this section.
The Claflin College Rally 'was
held at Silver Hill, Spartanburg,
Monday. Rev. Ferguson, district
superintendent and the pastors in
