An old man and as he shed tears; it made many others cry. -I - At 2 o'clock the white minister of the Baptist church, Eastover, Rev. Brunson brought a wonderful message to us from the book of St. Mark. Subject: Making a Monument for Christ. At 3 o'clock the Supt. Miss Ma . mie E. Hinton conducted a wonder ful program in honor of iRichard Allen's birthday, the founder of the A. M. E. Church. There were many good things said but among the best little Willie Hopkins read a paper on the Life of Richard Allen; Mrs. G. C. Woodard a pa ^ per on the?Beginning?of?the Church by Richard Allen and its success. DEACON ELLIOTT MILLER PASSES : New Brooklyn, 'Orangeburg, S. C.?Mr. Elliott Miller of New Brooklyn, Orangeburg, S. C., was born 1874 and departed this life January 25, 1939. He was marfled to Miss Essie Bowman 55 years ago. To this union ten child ren were .born. Six of this 10 survives: Mrs. Beulah Wright, Mrs. Ma,ggie Balls Mrs. Estelle Robinson,?Mrs. Cassie?Stewart and Miss Mozelle Miller. One son Mr. Gener Lee Miller and sixteen grandchildren. His daughters are residents of New York Cit?y. His wife Mrs. Essie B. Miller mourns her lost husband. He was a de? voted husband and a loving fathr er. He was a cheerful homemak er and will be missed in our community. The funeral Services were con, ducted at* Andrews chapel Friday January 27, at 3:30. The sermon was delivered by the Pastor Rev Toomer. Mr. JW. Elkleson spok? on his life in the community; Mrs. Carrie Green sang 'iboes Jesus Care". Mrs. Sedonia gave a talk of his church life . The school was well attended and the lesson well discussed. To have Mrs. McCollum in the church school added much to the school. We are glad to have her with us at any time; and after May she will be with us eveity Sunlay. The morning service was at" a high point as usual. The Pastor seemed to be at his best in his morning message. He opened our a i spiritual eyes as he spoke of the blind man. Dr. McCollum is not I a boy preacher, but a well prepared man preacher. On Sunday we added five members to the church; and he has been with us only two months, and has added sixteen members to church, and had no revival. Last Sunday newmembers as follows: Misses Hattie L. Spann, Rachel Spann, Celeste B ro\vn, W ilhel mina Stenj house and Estella Hendrson. You are always welcome at Wesley. We were all glad to have the Presiding Elder Rev. E. A. Adams with us. He made a v?ry interesting: talk which was enjoyed by everyone. Collection $26.12. It is progressnig in every way. Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Joy Bell club girls of the eighth grade gave Prof. H. B. Rikard a surprise birthday dinner. They invited the other teachers, Misses J. At 8 o'clock the pastor gave us another sermon full of thought and inspiration. Total collection for the day $46.05. The deceased was well thought of; many were the fine things said ahout hint at these services. He leaves to mourn his loss wife, six sons, two daughters and four grandchildren, Interment was in the church yard vmder a beautiful mound of flowers.
