Christmas Seal Drive
Charleston is certainly organiz
?<>H fnr tVi?? SpoI Sn|i"i this year.
Dr. C.. S. Ledbefter, chairman of
the' colored population of the city
is indeed the ri.eht man for the
position and we mean to do our
full share under his wise leadership.
Individuals and churches are
disposing of the seals by the
thousands and our purpose is to
make this year our high mark. Dr
Ledbetter's committee seem to be
in perfect accord with him. We
wish for South Carolina just
what Charleston is doing. For we
feel that with all we have done
scarcely begun to do what they
should in purchasing Xrnas seals
This money saves Hundreds o f
lives from tuberculosis among our
people. The white people who fur
nish most of the money even for
Negroes have been very kind irT
consideration of our acial. group.
So let the Negroes buy seals this
year as never before as -an cxpres
sion of our appdciation to the
white people for what they have
done to help us. To be continued.
Itcligi us Census
With Dr. It. E. 43-rogdon chairL
man of the religious census and
7 the Rev. J. Fk' Henderson secretary,
the colored people of Char-'
leston did the greatest missionary
work last Sunday^ in the history
of that Metropolitan City. Every
ward here was canvassed for the
purp se of getting those who
have no church home to mke. a
choice and it was a glorious sight
to behold the hundreds of lay
workers ehgagod in the work. We
believe God 'smiled 01; the work
accomplished .in Charleston b y
col red Christians of all denominations
last Sunday. When the
drive is completed it is our opinion
that hundreds wlL be brought
to the fold of God.' We sometime
make a. serious mistake in saying
the laity will not work on a program
for soul saving. But if they
are given a chance in all cities
and rural districts as in Charleston,
they will rended the same
sen-ice.
