what a healthy fruit figs are!
Fifl Surprises
814 cups sifted cake flour; 8 teaspoons
double-acting baking powder;
14 teaspoon salt; 14 cup butter
or other shortening; Vj cup brow'li
sugar, firmly packed; 1 cggif-weir"
beaten; 1 teaspoon vanilla; ty cup
milk. I
1 Sift flour once, measure, add bak;
fng powder and salt, and sift again.
! Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar
I gradually, and cream together until
light andfluffy. Add e^g and vaj
nilla, then flour, alternately with
milk, mixing thoroughly after each
. addition. Chill until firm enough to
roll. Roll % Inch thick on slightly
floured board. Cut with 214-inch
; floured cutter. Put one teaspoon
Fig Filling on a circle. Place anI
other circle on top, and press edges
1 together. Bake on ungreased baking
sheet In hot oven (425? F.) 6
to 8 minutes. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
Fig Filling
1 cups figs, chopped; % cup
sugar; %, cup boiling water; 1
tablespoon lemon Juice; 1 table|
spoon buttier
| Cook flgq. sugar, and water 6 to 8
minutes. or until thick, stirring constantly.
Remove from fire; add
, Union Juice and butter. Cool. ^
