The prediction of the LouisMann
fight was far from its true
form. I predicted the seventh
round, but Mann made one mis'
take, he hjf .Too-tivg Mi""i in th* face
and made him anvrv M?nn
might have lasted longer but he
angered the "dead pan" champion
Iff the first round. In the second
roitnd Louis jabbed his left into
Mann's face so often until the boy
from Conn, thought that this light-ening
left of Louis was unmovable,
" so Mann went down and was saved
by the bell. *In the third round
ttrrwas all Louis_righl two, three
fast lefts into Mann's face and out
he went. Well Mann, was a man
but not enough to stand his ground
against a superman like the champion.
Another cause for the quick
knockout of Mann was his tremen-.
clous reception by the fans the
night of the fight, while they booed
Louis. Louis took the booing but

Here fy what Arthur Donovan,
? the world's?foremost referee had
to say after. the fight. "Joe Louis
is now very ejose to the superfiehter.
Joe has about everything
- - -now -and- principally, he has the "
greatest left jab I've ever* seen.
~ Honestly its terrific. The first
time he reached out and stabbed
Mann, I heard Natie's nose crack.
That left will cut anyone to ribbons
in fifteen rounds."
Donovan rdeelared that Dempsey
didn't have a jab like Louis' and '
neither did he have a left hook until
Kearn? drilled it into him. Louis
has both left and right naturally,
and I'm, that is Donovan aaid,
that he. is convinced that neither

Granerebure. Feb- 2ft?The Phil
odelphTa Tribune Girls, National
Colored Champions, fell victim by
the seere of 20 to 16 to the hard
fighting South Carolina lassies
here Monday night before nearly
a thousand fans, In fairness to
the Tribune girls it must be said
that they were used to playing
hoys rules, but Monday night, the
South Carolina Champions, who
had just defeated Coulter Academy,
Saturday night, would have
brooked no interference under boys
cr girls rules, they were simply
? - more alert than the invaders: T
Inez Williams sharpshooting for
ward, Lillian Lott, closeguarding
guard and the rest of the team
composed of V. Clmclm, H. Wright
and FT Wright, forwards, Burgess
and Taylor, guards, played heads
and toes above Ora Washington >
and her team mates.
Monday nicjit was a big night
for South Carolina State. In the
exhibition tennis match (one set
by agreement) Miss Lnla Ballard,
South Carolina Coach and Instructor,
defeated Miss Washington by
the score of 6 to 3. Following
this, a set of mixed doubles were
played with Ollie Dawson and Ora
Washington, National singles
champion, opposing Roy iDavenport
and Lula Ballard. Referee
Stallwcrth called this set at 8-8
because of the pressure of time.
In the preliminary encounter
the YMCA team coached by Bryant
Blakemon thrilled the fans by
offering the varsity team a deal
of competition in the first half,
only to be outclassed in the eecond
half and lose to7 Coach Dawson's
team by the score of 43-29.
