That he i> a good man none will,

Charleslon Institute Closed.
The many^public school teachers
who attended the summer session
which ended here last. Saturday
said it was the best they have attended
anywhere since they have
been in the profession. Prof. C. A. :
Johnson is given the highest praise
by every teacher. They also speak
in" gloWing_terms ot the class of
instructors' secured by him. Quito
N a few of . the leading pastors of
the city were constant visitors to
the w institute. All of whom were
greatly impressed with its head.
We spent periods in his class
room, and heard his jjionderful instructions.
It's an inspiration to
any person to frequent his class
room. It was our good fortune to
visit the rooms of Mrs. H. C. Perrin.
Misses Cassell and Broadnax
and - we wore highly benefited; In
his parting word to the teachers
at the close of the session Prof. J
Johnson, uiged them to be interest.
od in the home life of the pupils.
"The teacher," said he "who thinks
her duty toward her students ends
in the class room has a mistaken
idea as to her responsibilities. It
should take in consideration their
j welfare in the home," His speech (
was highly commended by visiting
ministers witnessing the closing
exercises.
A Concrete Example. (
During the Charleston Summer ,
School session, Prof. Johnson, gave i
a fine demonstration of practicing ;

across the Ashley river into a rural
district; there he found a home
with rooms overcrowded with in-1
mates, unscreened windows, and
the horn lot attached to the Hving
house. He got permission
from that family to allow the teach
era of his Institute to modernize
and make that home sanitary. ]
He took one group of male teach
ers to that home at one period, ,
and they detached the lot from tho (
living house, and placed it at n ,
distance away, At another per- ;
iod he carried a group of lady
teachers and they screened the
windows and doors of that home,
and made many other necessary
improvements. When the work was '
completed tha.l^family had a real 1
modern home as the result of tho '
Charleston Summer School. The ,
State educators (white) as well as j
those of this city did not fail to .
heap laurels of praise upon Prof. I
1 Johnson and his noble staff for ]
his now feature in educational
alues. Our teachers here believe
his item of rurul education places
his institute in a class to itself,
ind the citizens her# agree with
hem as they have not heard of
hinj# similar. Just here the agent
