To The Choirs For ConventionContest
While our readers may have given
little or no attention to the general
invitation extended to' the A,
M. E. churches to enter a singing
contest to be held in. connection
With the state meeting, -we loot
forward to this us a special and
vital feature of the whodeprpgrani
of the con\ention.
I wish to state for your information
that a few of the largest
churches in the state, along with
ethers, have accepted the mvita
tion, and we are t'ookihg every day
to hear from you telling us that
y?u too will enter the contest. Be
cause we are planning to make the
night otf the contest (Thursday
night) the big night of the week,
we are urging that you enter at
once that you not hold up the special
prograni anticipated for that
occasion. In the contest each
' choir will be privileged to sing a
melody and an anthem. There is
no restriction as to whether this is
, done by the senor or junior choir.
We arc arranging special prizes
for the three choirs singing the
best according to the report of the
judges.

F Notwithstanding fhe present con
*" "vening dafeTor the state meeting
is more than a month off, the housing
and preparation-entertainment
committees are wasting no time m
getting things ancl homes in readiness
for the largest delegation and
grandest reception in ye*:'.'. The
- housing committee feels because of
the general interest in religious
education and the state-wide enthusiasm
the influx of delegates
from every part of South Carolina
will be eviuenced in Columbia the
second week in August. The committee
is arranging the two dormitories
for sleeping quarters for
those who enjoy campus life and
eating of course, is being provided
too. With this it will be neees
butt?only to bring a beet : or
spread and pillow case for steeping
purposes. It is expected that
many will make the occasion of
the state convention their vacation
trip.

years of service for the pastor.
They have indeed been yearB of
faithful and fruitful service. Beginning
with this day, the church
gives the pastor a vacation. He
plans to use this time studying
at Union Theological seminary

The entire city was shocked
Thursday morning to learn of the
death of Mrs. Maggie Mobley at
her home on Patrick Street. She
was a lovely woman, kind, patient
and devoted to her husband and

the Gateway to True Greatness,"
taken from St. Matthews 20:26.
This sermon was delivered with
great thought, force and fervency
The gripping interest and spiritual
tide which ran high evidenced
th? great acclaims with which the
message was received. Many visitors
were present and were welcomed.
Dr. C. G: Garrett,-of Columbia,
S. C., was among our visitors
in both our Sunday school
and church worship and made
great addresses.
At the evening's service a great
congregation gathered again to
?$hip. Deep and impressive was
devotional end of our service
it drew in the minds of the
worshipping congregation and
J centered them upon Christ Jesus.
| The very beautiful music rendered
by our Junior choir shared a
| large part in this alchie*remen,t.
I "The Glory and Beauty of tfhe
Lord," constituted the subject of
the evening's message.-Our pastor
did great justice to the subject.
Reports' continue to come in from
our rally just closed. Plans are
complete for our two weeks' revival.
Our pastor and family and Dr.
Garrett have just returned from
Memphis, Tenn.. where the Sesqui-Centennial
of the A. M. E.
Church was held. They report a
great celebration.
