CAROLINA TlVe National Youth Administration has extended aid during the past year to 4,178 young colored boys and girls em tilled in the schools of South - Carolina, and to 1.287 others employed on work projects, 'according to a report submitted to Washington officials recently by Dr. Roger L. Coe, state NYA director. JThe report, compiled under Dr, Cue's direction by Miss A. Cecile Johnson, with the .assistance of ?ounty and project supervisors, shows that the educational aid pro gram gave financial assistance to 1,598 Negro grammar school students, 2,179 high school cnrollees i and 401 umlorgmduaU.1-' during the f939-37 school term, ' Of this total, 1,714 were boys and 2,434 were girls, while of those ' on work projects 136 wore boys and 85i were girls.
