Meeting called to order by the president; a prayer and a song, then the minutes of the previous meeting were asked to be read. Tht? secretary read the minutes; they were received but not passed On! if. an -unreadness was clean up. | The minutes of the meeting of i March 1st, were read in order I that something might he brought' out' much clearer. In the minute* of the last meeting a report pas le of the chicken supper ?o f which' was given on Friday nite at Rcder Point school. The trip and jU'.ppr proved to have been a success. Every one seem to have eat ght the spirit of coopcratio..? during the club's last suppers. The dub members did not only turniait in full, but they carried their guest and friends, and they in turn at t ied their guest. This was a business nite foh the club. After all business Mr. dr. nson spi ke Of how glad the' ;\e ttbc.rs of hisfirm including tiivsn f were to have the club turn ut in such a large number, llo o<t, talked of co-operation among lie colored men.and how the white nfttl is gradually' pulling away ro:n the ^"egro as far as business s concerned. May we, tPe members of the club catch that same spirit and make our brother the same as the white man? ' It can be done and is going to be hme.-? ?1 Mr. T. J. hlntznunger was guest :<>r the evening. He spoke of what -o Id come out of such a body of lii.Hi if they ,weiie tq stick together ar.l get the ballot in their hands, an l that they were not citisens until they had the ballot in the hand lie too spoke of the power the X3gro had in this present election of . ;.'n<side'nt Roosevelt. The president asked Dr. Hal'nian to say .something on Xeg o business. Dr. Ilallman made tlv> -tatement that if it weren't for 'die Xogro business, he may as wo 1 "TV.ilI up and"go South. Mr. Miles rave n -unimarv of all. the speech ? os. Mr. Miles is well versed in polities and experience that he- is d.li? to enlarge on any speaker. In speaking of the ballot or tn<Xogro a^ a whofc, over one hundred and fifty years ago, the DecJuration -of Independence was a dopted by a body of men who had hone, courage and a fine philosophy of life. "We might hold these . truths to he self-evident, that all j men a?e created equal; that they \ arc endowed by their Creator with , certain rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursui' of happiness." It seem to me that this life, liberty and the pursuit^ of happinog^, is a doubtful thing to a large per cent of the colored ni*m in this country. Life? Yes he has life bui how much protection is given that life? There seem to be nothing cheaper in Ameiica than the life of a blacl; man. Liberty, yes he is .lfyee of bondage-such as that of seVfenty or more years ago. The club will be glad when that idea of which ! has already beep mentioned aLtbut the-Rf?irit- a?~th?-hL A. CJ. P. : in South Carolina goes over. When that idea soakes into the minds of men and women the pursuite of happiness, which brings that fredom to do any useful, thing that intelligence, character and energy fit one for, we shall have accomplished a goal. There seem to be a sadness with in the eyes of the next ones to s^rve the club after having dined so graciously at Mr. Branson's 1 j THE PAT,MfSTTO f.EAF) THE ROYAL COLLEGIANS Monday nitc, March 8th found the court again in session.
