EMM AN 1" EL A. M. E. CHURCH
Rev. R. E. Brogden, Pastor v
Charleston, S. C.?Last Sunday I
was indeed an ideal day and ser- j
vices at Emmanuel were well attended.
Our pastor, at the usual _.>
hour, ascended the rostrum and ?
the regular preliminaries were
conducted. Selecting his text from * !
the nineteenth chapter of Saint
Luke fifth verse, using as a theme
"God's* Call To Sinners" and im- ,
pre'ssive and searching sermon r
was heard. sThct pastor, in his
discourse spoke of three trees
namely, the tree of pride, carnal j
security and personal ambition. 4
In part it- was brought out that B
in order for one to fieo the Christ
he must come down out of the
tree in which he has his mind centered.
It was a great sormon
and the spiritual fire burned freely.
The words of the text
these?Arid when Jesus came to
the place, he looked up, and saw
him, and said unto him, "Zaechaeus,
make* haste, and come down;
for today I must abide at thy
house." ? .
The activities of the day terminated
with the evening worship..
At this hour an exceptionally
large audience was seen. An in- ' >
teresting and instructive evening
message was developed from the J
be hundred and twenty-six Psalm
sixth verse?He that goeth forth
weeping, bearing precious seed, . T
etc. -- Theme: Sowing Precious
Sei>ls. The pastor very beautifully
brought out th0 thought con
tained in this verse and emphasized
the fact that we all should
sow seeds of kindness and love ifl
yrder that we may reap bountifully.
There wnre three acrossions?James.
Tention, Utahvillo,
S. C.; M. Ward and Alma Ed*wds
Moncks Corner, S. C. . Our'visitors
. were greeted iri'^the usual
manner.
A lively Sunday school session
was, held on last Sunday afternoon.
The subject of the lesson,
New Life In Christ, John 3:1-17,
was enthusiastically discussed.
The silv^r tea sponsored by the
Stewardess haa.rd No. 3, wan quite -??J
a success. A very fine program
was rendered and a splendid group
attended.
Miss Etta L. Winds, a school
teacher and a member of our Senior
choir was painfully but not
seriously burned about the hand
and arm last week. We trust she I
will not have to be confined to
her home.
The pastor is very much pleased
with Emmanuel, and vice ver
fca.
