Douglass, l).D., Pastor The Sidney Park church is a fine i organization, and it is one of the ; leading churches of the C. M. E.' i '"Connection. Many of its members I ^ are among the leaders of the City. : + It has men and woYnen in the many 1 walks of life-here in Columbia. ' The present pastor has served this chuich one year, succeeding the Rev. J. C. Anderson, who serv ed as pastor five years. The yeai j which has just closed was a good y ear. ? ?- n Many new members were added ! to the church, and three thousand dollars were raised to carry on the work. The officers used three plans for raising money during the . year_which-plan? brought to them much success, they were as follows: The Coupon Book Plan, Banks and the Club Plan. Sunday was a nleasant day for all church-goers. The Sunday school opened at 10 A.M. with the ..superintendent at his post of duty. After the lesson had been tuaght by the various teachers, the lesson r wa8 reviewed by the pastor. At 11:15 A.M. Rev. Lewis had an inspirational sermon for his I hearers. His text was taken from I St. Matthew 27:22. He used foi " his subject "Tha Soul'g Greatest Question". . The A.C.E. League opened at 5:30 with Mr. Henry AVebber in charge. After the devotions the test of the time was turned ovei to Mr. Abram Green, who had an interesting program for us. "My Christmas Planning" was discussed by Mr. John Martin;; "The ' Spirit of Giving", by Mr. Henry Webber; "How Would ChristHave [ Used-Our Large Sums of Money" by Mr. Emmerson Lewis. MfS John Hunter played a beautiful piano solo. Mr. James Green sang three lovely solos entiled "Smilin' Through", "Sylvia" and "Chantique De Noel". We have never been th.is_la.toopening school before, and strli there are plenty of cotton to be picked yet. -Rev. and Mrs. Ryrd are out teachers this year. They come to us with out stretched arms to give ^to us their good work.- We believe they are the right teachers in the right .pace. We are prcuJ of them. There were more parentpthan pupils attending the opening, looking after the rental books and | quite a few rented books the first I day. The meeting was very timely, and we thought the bed thing to do- first was to get coal Mr. E. Hughes am.' Mr. Wm. Gfen are our trustees and they are taking great pleasure in helping Rev and Mrs. Byrd with the school. We are striving to make this one of our best school years.
