I . Saturday, June 6, 1936 BETHEL A. M. E. CHURCH ' Rev. 8. H. Lewis, Castor | -! The Sunday school hour begin- j ning at 10 a. m. was one of much pleasure and prpfit to all, especially the1 lecture by Dr. Lewis on the lesson topic ,trnti the n'iv> ' . by Supt. W. H. Young extensive report of^the General Conference viait. A splendid audience of fDKmbera and friends was present 4 for the morning worship. At 11:15 a. m. the pastor selected Exodus 12:26 subject, "The Significance of Patriotism," from which a most splendid sermon was delivered, full of wholesome suggestions fittingly applied to present condition of affairs. At 4:00 p. m. Memorial service gjf' was conducted by the Sis*.,..hood in honor of the life aim iuithiul service of Sister Christina Banks and Sister Martha Kennedy. This service was very impressive. The participants on- program were Mrs. P. G. Baumgardner, Mrs. E. E. Sightler, Mrs. C. E. McGill, |T Miss Helen Reddiek, Miss B. Kinard, Rev.S.H. Lewis and Mr. J.B. Lewie The choir furnished ' "> very aappropriate music for the occasion. The A. C. E. League hour conducted by Miss A. B. Lewis was most interesting and highly beneficial to the entire f group. Quite a treat;1 and they deserve commendntion for their v splendid work. Coma to the program at 6 p. m. The sermon was .delivered by.the pastor from Amos 3:3, subject "Fellowship - wiffit God." The sermon and service' were good and pleasing to the splendid audience. Visitors are always weleonfe at our services. EMMANUEL A. M. E. CHURCH ~ ?ReV. J. E. Thomas, Pastor Charleston? The nreaeliimr r>f the gospel from time .to time brings out the thought that man i must worship; he.must have a God of some kind. This is very true and should not "be denied. If, r fnr nny rantnn mon will r-nt goivo 1_ the Lord, then let them choose > whom they will serve. In selecting, it is veity essential to choose the one that will be of some benefit. Such thoughts as these are stressed by the mecsengers of the gospel as they stand before large audiences w<hile preaching the glad tidings. It is for us to meditate and concentrate in order to reach the conclusion and make a decision. Last Sunday morning the pastor 9poke from, the tenth chapter of St. Luke, twenty-seventh verse? And he answering said, "thou ihalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart," etc. Subject "Thy 1 neighbor as thyself." It was a practical sermon such - as " would tend to cause us to treat our fellow-men as we would have them treat us. A part of the chapter named was read for the morning lesson and the one hundred an eleventh Psalm was read alternately. Our superintendent Mr. S. L. Jones was at hin poet during tha Sunday school period. A splendid attendance was seen.and the le.sson^was well considered. The Allen League, is still moving on. The president, Miss N. W. DeLe6line is very faithful and is endeavoring to execute her duty. "And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire," etc. Exodus third chapter, second jand third verses. Theme, "The burning bush." The pastor deduced from this text another great sermon, the same was heard by a large gathering of members and visitors. The evening reading was a portion of the chapter mentioned. The delegate to the General Conference, Mr. S. Lr Jones madehis report on last Sunday evening. It is very encouraging to know that the connection raised during the ipast four years several millions of dollars for tho sunnort of . all the departments of the general church. By this time all of our members who attended tin great convocation have> arirved.^ saint james a.m.e. chircii Rev. Hale B. Thompson, Pastor An overflowing congregation adf dressed themselves to divine wor< ship On the past Sabbath which was beautiful and cool from sun?rise to sunset. The-senior choir in it's processional and musical renditions throughout the 'day gripqyed the audience in an exceptional way. The morning's message was deilvered by our pastor, the subject of which was^'Encouragement" taken from Exodus 14:13. The fire burned upon the altars of the heart as the servant _ of God spoke by the way-side. In _ response to the invitation for church^cOnnection Mrs. ~Brown~ of Cleveland, Ohio and Mr. Judge r ? Lawrence of this city were receiv- ed and assigned to lhe classes of Mr. CHarrles Freeman and _Mrs. ?/xggie?wooro?respectively.?Xhiay were joyfully welcomed into the church by the entire staff of officials. Our visitors from within and without the city were numerous and among them were Miss Selena L. Williams, St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. M. Is. Alexander and Miss Annie Lee Mcintosh of ^ this city. The evening service likewise had an overwhelming attendance. The subject our pastor's evening message was "Rest" taken from. Paul's Epistle to Th? Hebrew 4:0. Both messages for tne day were full of thought and delivered with force and were received with serious thought and spiritual enthus? iaam. The church becomes more and more promising as the teachers, r students and parents give themselves to the work of developing -< those who come. <- Each Sunday new scholars are enrolled. The | ?1? subject of the lesson taught and _|| discussed was "The Last Supper" and great interest was in evidence among all of the classes. All I ? m I boards, clubs and special working units for the month reported in i KULL- and the teiuporaal end of the church activities is brought as usual to a successful close. All are looking forward to the contribution which our pastor and rhoir shall make in a special" oioaidcast through the government's facilities at Camp Otecn on ounday 'morning, June 21st from J:3U to 10:15. In course of prepar- j ation every detail is being check- | ed to conform strictly with the time-element. ST. STEPHEN A. M. E. CHURCH ""-ReVT I). N.
