Hill (Bojangles) R iay We took a taxi und went to Ke W.dodside Hotel between 141st nd 112nd Sts._ where my chaperon ame up all the management of he hotel rushed out to give us a ordial welcome to the hotel and ity. We were escorted to our oopi by the bell boy. . J The room was conveniently loated on the sixth floor with ele-1 nitiI-.- .-er>ico, private. 1' th, teie?hone argl radio. So one can imame how pleasant everything was or us there at the hotel. Most of Monday I spent resting ut Monday night I took a bus own town and_went sight seeing, "ucsiiny nu i fling 1 was called lown i;i the hotel lobby to meet Bill" Robinson, the famous screen ctor and dancer. In other words he "Mayor of Harlem" was there o welcome us to the- city. He inited us lo,foin him in a night of ' un at the* Ubangi Night Club, ocated on 1151st St. corner of 7th tvenue. Later Tuesday afternoon ce visited the Harlem Library and tiverside Church. We all danced to the trains of many popular pieces, tcfreshments were served. Two loor shows entertained us. We irrived at the hote; the next rriornng at 6:00 a. m. "Wednesday, we went downtown" h~ the shopping district and stay(1 there looking through the large lepai tment stores until about 3:00 >. m. We came back, had dinner trrd" rested a while. That night I vent to the show at Lowe's theare. Thursday morning, Mrs. Clark, he news reporter Tor the?Palmetto .eader in New York came down to he hotel and took Mrs. Alston and ne to visit the National BrOadcastng Company's Radio Studios. Thursday-night, the four-eellege clubs, Benedict, Allen, State and -Clafliiv had a receptionl for lme. 1 enjoyed a delightful evening?of dancing. At 11:30 o'clock- my party and I-were introduced. To my surprise, Dr. Wilkinson present ed me'with a beautiful silver loving clip. We all departed very happy over the enjoyabj^evening. Friday we went to Philadelphia; and had a fine time there. ? --- h We returned from Philadelphia about 3:00- P. M.. Saturday.. Ac ~ Mrs. Robinson called, Inviting Mrs. Alston, and me to go with her, to the.theater in Radio City and af tor the show, the Cotton Club. We gladly accepted the invitation. 1 That night?Mxs?Robinson railed . for us and we went to the theater ( in their special built Duesenburg. The show was very good, we came out and found the chauffer and Mr. Robinson waiting to carry us to the Cotton Club, on Lenox Ave. and 142nd Street. Claude Kop-kins and his orchestra with Orlando Robertson furnished musicT for the evening. We had a very enjoy able evening and returned to the hotel about 4 A. M. Sunday morning. my chaperon an J 1 sp.nt pack | ing up and planning to leave. We left New York at 5 P. M. The week I spent in Now York was one of the happiest weeks I have ever spent in niy life." ' I think all the people who made this possible should be highly commended on such wonderful project. If other girls knew what I know they would not let another contest pass without taking a part.
