" > NEGROES WILL WUBK L & l It can be truthfully said to the credit of Negroes that the masses '{ of them rather work than loaf or , beg. The indictment against Ise-<s-?grows that they are shiftless and - lazy, and prefer a state of^ idleness to that of hard labor, is.raise-, x feel safe in saying that y out of every 10 .Negroes are willing to f do any kind of \vork to. make an honest living: Negroes are never found guilty.of great big mail robberies, bank hold-ups, or kidnaping for ransom. His desire to earn bread is by the sweat of Us brow. Now this argument is easily sustained by our people living in cities and in rural communities. There can be no better examples given to prove this assertion than the many that we have here in Charleston. This is a seaport city where Sea food is abundantly sup1 plied. And almost everything eatable that comes-out of the water i? peddled to your door every day by Negroes who are endeavoring to earn a livelihood. Again Charleston is a great shipping center,-and when these large steamers- come in to be loaded or unloaded, hun dreds of Negro men work day and night without shift, Sunday included. Truck farming is a leading industry, ?n-rfrhe Islands around' ~ ??this city. And on these farms grow some of the best vegetables in the United States. This food is also brought daily to your door, either by Negro men in wagons-or wmu-n with carts. W . ^A furthey corroboration of this HPvaict is to be seen from 1 to 25 A or more Negro women selling beau ?TifGT^oWtrnr~nTOUTid the iimffr post , Boffice every day in the year, and Halmost every kind of weatherrThe ( authorities had so much resfor, the?way these women f were trying to make an honorable |?Jiving- that they overruled a comp plaint on the part of some citi- zens to have them go elsewhere ] ^ Whatever may be^said to the dis e credit of the Negro,-the ope iniB^^?grbant-thing if>?ht^-ffrvor iay^ha'i =; ,1s provided" Kim, he a^ill , ~~ "accept"imy kind, buTimeSbe-wU-beg- -steal. ?-- X- T , Look Out For The Red Cafes L_.
