v nual Conference at Union last week
acknowledged that it wa^- the best
v . in the history of that conference.
Many who have attended annual conferences
for years sail this session
* . surpassed then) ally/T(hey said that
- -the- sermon Sun morning by Bishop
Noah W. Williams was worth
more than one's trip to the seat of
the conference. Sure enough it was
a record breaker. The organization
was simply fine and our reports were
far from being the worse. The ad^
dies<c> .of Captain Abram Sihipson,
' ..business manager and acting presio
dent of Allen University was a fitting
climax. And the sermons .by
Dr. S. II? Lewis and Rev. J. M Williams
made wonderful*, impression^.
Music by all the- chuut were^ grand.
Namely, Bethel, Trinity and -Clinton
Chape)?jTHc reception program was
-. ;. a high class affair and the? Pastor,
Rev. I,. G. Bowman, made IUU-on the
- . conference entertainment.
fl'ANGK.S, AND TRANSFERS
Dr. R. S.*'^awiefiCLY former pastor
Ui' lidUltU LllUTcli. Columbia, was
i transferred to-^the- South Carolina
Conference- and Dr. C. A. Graine from
_ ^ the Michigan C6nfeYenci? was- assigned
to this pastorate. Dr. I. H._'Al,.?
ston -of Newberry' was transferred
; to the Central Conference anu also
the Rev. W. B. Bouler of New
Newberry,'is .to be .supplied. Dr. L.
H Owens of Louisville. Ky., was assigned
to Chappolle Station, of this
, city and the Rev. Gvden of St. Louis
of the connectiotfaf claims in the A
M. E. Zion Church he came blundering
to our church like a blind horse,
with no more recommendation than.i
buck rabbit. But I vouched for him
when ho should have been in prison,
and had iV.y bishop appoint him to
one ofj our goo i charges. And as
awn us ims eiepnanx ieet rut mo.,soil
he bagan his old tricks. He "swipped
n41 of the Easter Day Money, Children's
Day, May Day, Endowment
Day, then" .finally concluded with 'he
Dollar Money and took the woods.
He seems to forget that there is a
sheriff in Union county, arid stealing
church money is just as much of a
crime as stealing other money. The
A, M. E. Church will teach this double
jointed rogue a lesson for all time
?* tt> come. The "Spartanburg district
t would have held-its own had that old
billy goat in lamb's fleece, reported
what the people gave him for the
conference. He must not be seen- in
any of our pulpits until the courts are
through with him, for he will steal
an annual conference.
