Minnesota Garrison incited the club members?to meet at the residence of Dr. and Mrs." W. I). Chappelle for an afternoon of bridge. A delicious menu was served. jThosr-receiving prizes were Mile. Leah Frasier who scored highest and Mme. Estelle Johnson for Tow score. Mile. Roach wa the lucky one in the draw for consolation. On Dec. 17, Mile. Mattie Mouzon entertained the ctpb with a very colorful Christmas party. There were several guests present including Miles Sadie Spears, Edith Butler, Hattie Mae Cornwell, Rose Glaserow, Genevieve Vincent, Ethel Sanders and Mme*- Grace Ruff, Gertrude Stevens and Minnie Johnson. The house was beautifull" decorated with holly, silver and red bells. At^the conclusion ?>f tho (f imaa, Mmn KrIoIIp Johnson was presented first prize, Mile. Thomasina Thomas, eonsolatroTr and Osceola Allen, bpohy. Mile. Ethel Sanders was presented the guest was served. It was just after this meeting that we received the sads news of the death nf Rev. Pendergrasa, father of Mile. Maud Pendergrass. We pause here to extend to Mile. Pondergrass, our deepest sympathy. On the morning of Jan. 1, front 7:30 until 10:30, the club entertained "with a pretty breakfast party trr the legantly appointed home of Mile. Vy S Mary Ray Saxon. It was one of the smartest a flairs on the social calendar for the Yule-tide. Thy Saxon home held appropriate red-berried foliage and bright poinsettiaT WTiTst games preceeded the, delicious breakfast and prizes were awarded; afterwhieh the tune of music by our own Russel-Russel. Again on Jan. 7, Mile. Saxon opened her doors to the. club and the following guests, for an afternoon' of fun, Miles. Edith Butler, Rose Glasgow, Mattie Mae Cornw.ell, Genevieve Vincent, Ethel Sanders, Janie Adams and Mines. Bernicc Hallinan, Septima Clark, Alma Rhodes, and Jennie Mac Willis. Bridge was enjoyed and the collation served, made us think that -it-was stilt Christmas. Club prized were won by (-) Mile. Lucy Wilson, Mmier EsteRe" Johnson and ft}) Mile. News soon spreaded over Columbia during the. week._ that the eitv had granted the Athletic Council of the the other, city schools' the use of the beautiful Columbia Township Auditorium at Taylor and Henderson for the Stat'e-.wide Reception and Ball after the Roland Hayes Recital at the Columbia Theatre, the night of February the 6th. "Hie auditorium will be opened to the public for the reception with one of the best orchestras in, South Carolina at 10:30 until ?*?-?. The attendance at the dance is estimated will reaeh -between two thousand five hundred to three thousand people. They will come from all parts of the State. School decorations, flags-;; palm" trees will help carry further the beauty of the artist of the largest and best auditorium in the State, ijnd one of- the largest in the South. ' " .J-. H.
