THE MISSION OF ALLEN UmVERSITYT ~ George A.. Singleton. A^e" University fUln pla"* rin tKe social life of South Carolina and the nation. She has a peculiar mission to fulfill. Apart from men. , tally equipping hundreds nf rinr youth it is her task to inspire them with an f quality rnmpln* Hint will impress ' them with the incontrovertible fact that they possess possibilities of intellectual achievement and moral attainment the equivalent of any man or group no which the sun has ever shone. She will pass on to them the findings of respectable scientists in the fields ofyan_ is no appreciable difference in cran, groups: In the long run the attain. mentr crf 'the ultimate goal is. a matter ot\. trainlhg~and opportunity. ~ In carrying out' her mission Allen "University will seek to instill the must perform a3 a team. The team cannot be'any stronger than its weak est member. By substituting group for "pack" and member for "wolf" we readily see that the trength of our group depends upon the strength of every ndkidual member, and the strength of te individual member depend3 upon the strength of the group. A .more homely philosophy would say that the" strength of the chain ia_jdeter_ ..mined by its jaeakent link TUy- nmr: iiiliiy^rTah army rests "upon the pace cf its- slowest moving unit. Allen University in carrying out her peculiar mission will stress along -with group cohesiveness7 conscious I ness of kind. Nothing is-ever gained by individuals who .leave the group. The mugwump is just as unpopoular with a-social group as with a polit. ical party.
