? 0 O A ^ . r Saturday, June 19, 1926. The Marriage and hrOur Gi - _ By REV. ALBEIT i- i " ?I - k 11 We see a good "deal of courting these (^ days but little marrying. We seo^ of years in our schools.?They?come -j home with- their- diplomas and in ^ their queenly ways, - move here and N there among their group, but no one ( seems to want them as wives. Then, too, many of them who "do succeed in , jumping into the matrimonial sea soon , jump out of it again. , . s ' I always laugh at ^he folly and ig- ( ^ nor a nee of the fellow who goes with a girl FIVE YEARS sat as to "find j her oui!L Then, t.oo, such a fellow is a dangerous man. Any girl who tol- . erates such a course of conduct is ( branded among all men. Her chances , may be good in some place, but they , are dead in that place. ?J In the for West they have organized ~ schools in Which young people are < taught the duties of the married life, ~ as far as they can be taught, before ^ they marry. It would bo well for many -j - -bf-ourgirls^atleaSt, if: such "schools ] sould be organized among Us. 5 The marriage mis-fits among us are ^. creating a s^ious problem for our group. People can be found now who nuTttV for anv atuj pyprything pypppt. | love. Some marry stockings, others ] for feyt;S) color, how he 1 wags his legs and for how he catties ] his shape. They say: "Well; he is c homely, but he has good looking mon- . ey. lie can give me what"I want. I " care not for his looks. Let his looks "i go, I will marry him 'and as far as f lor love, I'll find aomeone elge for ' that." I have oftenjieard yohng men \ say: "Well, her tatner hias the "kale" r and that is all that I want. I konw ] she is not-pretty. I am hot suVe that I even 1 ove her, but that does not \ matter. 1 am not fond of work. If ( the old fellow supplies with money, I j will take her, and -make ouF with her ' 1 ' although I really love another girl." ? "Well," said'a friend of tnine to 1 such a young man some time ago, I! "How are you going to manage suchji a problem?" He answered: "I will't marry the girl th egirl who has the \ money and go with the girl I love." i - He tried this and another fellow shot- i him dead. double standard often ; ieaas to sucn tragic results. However s there are people who"'should never ] marty. They are people who cannot , adjust themselves to the spirit of ! team work in life. . The. trouble. forj i T , such is found Tn the homes from 1 which they come. Children who are ' not taught the spirit .of team Work in 1 ^the htrnre, will" never catch thevTsibn 1 _ fui1 sueli wui'k in .{finer relation of 1 life. Thirty_years ago, people mar^ ~ rieti^lo unite their efforts so as to 1 make a living. "Now, however, thousands marry to keep from work. When both husband and wife engage in some i gpinful occupation, each konw the i lvalue of the sacrifices, that tha^other- -l han to make, but when a man with 1 a small income sits a woman down in I any place artd encourages her in 1 lazhiness, he starts a phase of his 1 woes mat never-enas until he either < dies or separates himself from that 1 woman. And more than that, tie destroys the spirit of sacrifice-which- -1 each should have for th eother. \ The married life is no more of a i L , ~ 'life in which one should fexpect some-H L thing for nothing than any other kind < W of a life. But, there are people whose i i secret habits, drift them away from the plane of love. To marry such a s person is the -greatest TfrtsfoKune in this world. After all, it is the minds of the people that afflicts each other. 1 A mind that has not caught the love : - vision, may have outwardly a nice , looking face. Its outer forms and con- i ditions may be nice to look at but not " to live with. To a certain extent, selfisolation is the price of succesB in all of the walks of life. So the girl who 1 is with men too much and the man who is with girls tpo jnuch* fcficomes i stale. Men chat and while away time with stale girls but they^ never mar ries them. If accidentally ? mnn should marry one, he soon tires of, her rfnd flees to parts unknown. The same is true of men. People who build up strong magnetic personalities are never alone. However, such peo pie are never, butterflies. v Marrying today is a more serious^ problem than it once was. It becomes so because so many young people __who want to marry do not want to ia nno nf tho grnnt- . est possible events in the life of a man or woman in this world. The silliness and th ignorance with which many among us enter into this sacred / 0 OFFICE PHONE 145 |CHAMPIOIN FUNERAL DII l- LICENSED E I 927 Broad Street, DAY AND N1GRT CALLS <<808oeoec8oeceoeeeoee8eeeeoeoeoec8oeceoecs?c8c838oeoi , y ' Divorce Problem roup tT LONG, D. I nany so-called good men say that di- j forces should not be granted. They I say that it is against the WILL OF I GOP. But the . difficulty whieh con- ; fronts all - sueh mis-directed people is to prove that God really has any:hing to do with the many mis-flts In his direction. His same perlinisslve decree that permits moral free agency in other well-konwn instances, al- / so established the same possibilities in -this ihstance also. I can not helieve that Gocf is pleased or that His lause is helped by a woman living j_ with a man who knocks her down ' .vhenever he i? displeased, blacks her j }yes, kicftB her in the side or draws ; lis revolver on her in the home, and . hen goes out'and spends his earnings | with other' women, I do not sub- ', scribe to the double standard of life. In the school'of life in which I j, rain, that that is right for a man1 is | ijght for a woman, and that that ia,^ wrong for "a woman is wrong for a j nan. 'Whenever a man or a woman ( eases to love each other, the marriage jnion is destroyed. They can stay j( together and fight as much as they 1 ilease, but th eproblem of the conlict belongs to them and not to, God. Two minds that really , each.. other " really marry before they go to the ninister or the magistrate. When two I nin'ds thus attracted have become j one, and defy locks, jails and dis-, 1 ances. it onw?he- said thnt nnlnrn ni- I jod has joined them together. Rntlj the many other .questionable motives , by which thousands -are le dinto this ] sacred union dailv. the misfits we he- 1 lold can not be sat to God's account. \ Selfishness and lust are the foujida- < iions of all such marriages. It mat:ers not how well all such unions be- 1 ?in, the end is iln sight. Some fun- ! 1 iy features are often observed in the ' married life of many foolish people.- ] Sometimes a man marries a woman,' i and from his view point, he loves \ 1 her so well that he does not want < any one else to even speak to her. j She is kept at home in a box. When- i aver any men visitors come to hisuL. home, he does all of the talking. He ] watches her eye. If her eye wanders.. i in even?a-fripndty way toward the! man visitor to his home, just as. soon as he is gone, h& >tfrus adflfresses hi^ j? wife: "Now, look here, I believe you j are interested in that, "nigger" that! just-left here. He meets that same , 'nigger" as he called him, and tells J iim that he regards him as being one of the best friends he has anywhere. 1 1 He slaps him?on the shoulder and' walks arm in arhi with him after, I without any cause whatever, he has f threatened to kill his faithful wifeij about a man whom she has never ) given a serious thought only in a so- | cial way as her husband's invited ^ guest in his home. I ha've konwn foolish husbands to keep up such igno- ) rant rot in their homes until they! j really paved the path of love for jj their own wives and other men, who , but for them, would nver have che- j; rished such thoaghts for each oj^her.1 Well, whenever you have planted such seed, you need not. stay away from your worts and watch any one. The crop will come. Fighting, cut- j ting and shooting cannot cuF? the1 trouble you have started. Yuo made the medicine and the time has d&- [ L-reed that you must take it. I In this age of the world, the moment a man or a woman becomes fool- j ighly jfolnnc nf nnnh nthoi.) game "j is lost. Just as well call the rooters, from the field. The other side has! won the game. No, those whom Nature or God has joined together will pull through to the end, but those whom self-seeking, sinful motives and lust join together, may jump nito this sacred union and step lively for a while, but when, the test comes and I come it will, and they are weighed in j found^wanting!^ * / j" My friend, watch your step in this < direction.
