ARMS FROM EKOLAHD.
The Commissioners appointed under u law
of tlio Virginia Legislature, to procure arms
for the belter defence of the ftate, have been
in correspondence witn tbe manufacturers of
the Enfield, Hide, in England, and been offered
6,000 of that arm at prices near sixty five shil
lings. British, for each piece. They have
written to say tliul they will take 2,500 at that
price.

There have been thirty arrests in Princess
Anne and Norfolk counties, Va., of negroes
implicated in the recent conspiracy there. '
Dick Ryan, the ringleader, and another free |

to capture them. In Halifax. X. C., there have
been some servile disturbances The slaves on

OUR DISTRICT FAIR.
Wo hare only time mid spue# in our present
issue for a very brief mention of our District
Fair, which in now in progress, and which
promises to reflect great credit upo'n the District,
and upon all concerned. The people of
Abbeville seemed lo have turn?-d out in mass,
and wo have rarely seen k<> bright an army a*
wns pre*ented at the Fair Grounds on Wedneaiii;6ilrty
ai.d Thursday. The attendance is very
large, equalling, if not exceeding that of last
year, whilst the display of articles upon exhibition
in almost every department of industry
is far superior. The display of Blooded Stock
and a variety of fine grudea of cattle is unusually
fine, whilst in the Departments of
Crops, nod Domestic Industry, (lie number of
articles upon exhibition is very full And complete.
To give sonic ides of the number and variety
of the entries, we would mention that among

Carriage Hoi-Ren and Mares, 16 Bliggy Horses,
18 Saddle Ilorsrs, 19 Geldings. 11 Fillies, 16
Mures and Cults U Jucks, 23 Mules, 9 Mule

Grades, 4(1 Common Cattle, 23 head ?>f fine
Merino*, Sou'h Downs, Cotswold and Flat Tuil,
72 head of Swine, confuting of E^fex. Chester
County, Suffolk and Common Stuck. Any

In the Ladies IInil there me 72 of the fluent
Quilts, ConnteipnitiB, Comfort#, and the like,
that was ever on exhibition. The Domestic
Department cannot ho excelled in quality and
quantity hy any Fair in the State. Of the
Crochet, Needle Work, Wax, Hair and Shell
Woik, and paintings, there are n.any magnifi
emit ppuoirnrtiB o.l exhibition.
Tliero has been a larjre attendance from other
Districts, and we see Exhibitors from Edgefield, <
Newberry, Laurens and Anderson. To these
all we extend a hearty welcome.
At a meeting of the Society on Wediiesdny
night, a very interesting address wnsmnde by
tne President, Col. J. F. Marshall; and able
