was also taken up at the meeting, though its
amount is not stated.
Kansas Am.?The liosion Journal savs: The
resolves app!'oprintiug&lini,ooo in aid of the
Free State s-Mtlers in Kansas were acted upon
iu the House yesterday, the question being ta
ken at 1J o'clock hv assignment. The
resolves were adopted by a vote of 1 ">0 to 152,
the majority in favor of them being only seven.
The resolx i s barely escaped being defeated.
When it is lvtiiemhered tliat they passed
to a third rendiuir on the loth inst., by a vote
of 206 to which is just two to one, the
change of sentiment in regard to this injudicious

more time would have completed the rev

tlio Baltimore Amejyoan, writing from Washington,
under date April 17, says:
Home of your readers have probably noticed
the letters recently in the llerald, charging
I'hilip Ciavton, the new First Auditor of
the 'Irea-urv, with Gnlphiuism in the manner
of allowintr I he claim <>f 1!. W. Thompson against
the Met.oiiionee Indians. The author thereof,
Mr. Geo. 1J. Merrick, who is the Clerk of&tfie
Finance Committeeof the Senate, was attacked
nt the l'ost t liliec this morning by a Mr. Calvin
11. Savre, of Alabama, a second cousin of Mr.
Clayton, and considerably pummelled. The
only visible bruise, however, is a black eye, but
Mr. H<Triek complains that his shoulders are
somewhat lame. JIc also says that the assailant
put his head in chancery,'to use the flash
term of I lie rim;, and that he was thereby un
ni.?ic to uo any thing more than toward olT a
few of the Mows from his head.

The market has continued very firm, and nil
good beeves and .sheep command high prices ;
and farmers in Henry, Shclhy, and contiguous
counties, are demanding >-5 gross for good
licevcs. The stock cattle in these counties, as
we learn from intelligent f-ourees, are in better
condition than any time before for ten years,
and the prospect of increasing the stock an
more flattering than they had been for several
years.

On Friday last, at Helena, on the line of the
<Jrcenville Itailroad, lie attempted to commit
suicide by cutting his throat. Fortunately,
the wound inflicted was not of such a character
as to result in death, lie was brought to
Newberry, where a Surgeon closed the wound.
A delegation of Creeks and Setninolcs will
visit Florida in the autumn, and endeavor to
persuade t lie Seminole.* there to emigrate West.
Meanwhile, no active military movements will
take place in Florida.

for 18.V7 makes some starting disclosures, 'i'lie

Mr. Izurd, Governor of Nebraska. having been
withdrawn, lie will he removed on the ground

The Governorship of Utah has been lender< (1
to Maj. ISciij. MeCulloch, ond it is believed

is now on its way to him, requesting his presence
in Washington.
