vast drawing room, decorated with all imagin
able care, reproduces exactly that of a
heroine of one of M. .Sue's novels, and on
the wood work of a Gothic mantel-piece
tliero is a mo<l:ill:oti representing Mary Magdalen
falling at our Savior's feet, while lie
tells licr sius are forgiven because she has
loved so much. An immense plate glass
door connects this drawing room with a
green house filled with exotic plants and
trees, and it is lighted at night with magnificent
chandeliers. The walls are richly
decorated; gold and silver li>!i are swimming
in marble basins.
In addition to the chandeliers, there are
branches for candles mixed with fuliagi ?(
the trees and plants to increase the ellect
when the place is lighted tip. A small gallery,
lined with odoriferous pluuts, loads toft
circular walk surrounding a garden cultivated
in the most expensive manner, and
containing a beautiful sheet of water with
numerous swans upon it. The walk is u
chef <T(cuvrc of comfort, for it is protected
by glass from the wind and rain ; it is in
t-ioseu wun oaiusiraues covered wiui creeping
plan's of the choicest natures. It is a
Bort of terrostial paradise ; beyond it is a
peak admirably laid out with kiosqucs, rustic
cottages, elegant bridges, and a preserve
for phr a-anls, which supply myriads of birds
for the shooting excursions of the illustrious

severe look out to prevent any person from
touching the. game.

?There is a splendid court yard lending to
theslnblcs for carriage horses, whose names
are marked over their several stalls. The
wood work is richly painted and varnished,
and is adorned with an intimity of brass ornaments.
Near the stabtes is a box exclusively
devoted to M. Sue's favorite mare, the
famous '"flood Lady,'' and it is ever elegantly
furnished. The harness is kept in the finest
order ; there is a communication from
the harness room to the green house. The
dog kennels are in the same luxurious style
as the stables ; many work men would think
themselves lucky to have such accommodation.

His Winter residence in Paris (in the
Rue de la 1 Y'pini< re.) was ipiito as sumptuous
