I was on the boat at the time she .sunk,
d was barely able to save myself. The
at and cargo arc a total loss ; not a sino
trunk or bundle of baggage was saved

>t every tiling, and but few recovered any
irtion of their money; the books and
ipers of the boat were also lo?t. The
>at sunk in luss than one minute from the

A committee to raise funds, says the

tlerers was appointed, and reported that
ey found no difficulty in collecting an
nouut more than sufficient to supply the
ants of all tins sufferers on the Cuba,
liieh they distributed in oceoi dance with
cir necessities ; and in addition, gave ?10
a negro man, belonging to Mrs. Henry

and immediately eaiuo to the assistance
the passengers with a flat. Also ?10
i a negro woman, (servant on the boat,)
ho was very; active in assisting the snH'ers,
and through whose energies an infant

Seveial negroes acted wjtji discretion and
licieney on the occasion of the Cuba's

reer, first clerk of the boat, was rescued
7 a negro man belonging to him, who
unged into the river to save bis master.
