The trains on the Abbeville Branch wil
hereafter be run regularly twice :i day, so a:
to make tho connection with the up and

at 8 A. M., and half-past 2 P. M.
For the public convenience, this is a good
change, and we arc glad it has been ma<Je.
Camp-meeting?Accommodation Train.
"Wewe authorized to state that an extra
train will be run from this placo to the Union
Camp-meeting on Sunday next. Leave
Abbeville at 0 A. M., and the Camp ground
after the afternoon service. We will add
that a prompt appearance at the point of
departure, by those who desire to ?ro down I
by the time above fixed, will be wise, as
"cars and tide wait fur no man."
A Shocking Murder.
Mr. Wm. J. IiIciikv, we nre informed,
was brutally murdered, on his own premises,
near Donaldsville in this District, one
night last week.
Mr. Ricjiev had returned from a weddiug
party, at which his family (a wife and '
two or three children) remained, and was !
found dead in his own yard next morning. 1
A maul, lying by, bore marks of having 1
been the instrument of death. The door of i
his smoke-house was open, and the pre- *
sumption is that a thief or thieves commit- t
ted the murder. No further discovery has a
been made.
C
Elections and Riots.
The elections in North Carolina, Tenues- "
see, Kentucky and Alabama were hqld last
week, but the results are not yet fully
known in either of those States. In North
Carolina it is thought two Know Nothings oi
are ejected to Congress, and the defeat of Jj
gnnnill 1WJU launttll Uling- I
man?is rumored. Kentucky, it is thought, I
has been cairied by the Know Nothings. ' 01
A dreadful riot occurred at Louisville, on
tv
the Oth. Three natives were shot dead, ar
and one Irishman hung. This is but an- nt
other taste of tlie legitimate fruits of the
boasted "American reform."
Address of Hon. P. S. Brooks*.
It is scarce^' necessary that we invite
our readers' attention to the address of Col. ?
Brooks to his constituents, which we lay 0E
before them in this issue. Tho question
discussed is an exciting and important one,
and it will be the general expectation that ^
the discussion of it by our young and able Z?I
Representative will be fair, candid, inde- th<
pendent arid thorough. In our judgment ^
that expectation is met in the Address (
which is now put forth. The positions assumed,
it appoars to us, are perfeotly impreg- eta
nable; and we respectfully and earnestly *
asE that they be thoroughly scanned by fiU<
every one before he indulges any sympathy j/r
towards a party whose doctrines we bcliere pari
to be so fraught with destruction to civil and 5ion
religious liberty.. . pric

people of South Carolina, yet it is the duty ^hc
of Col. Brooks, as a watchman upon the Vriz*
"outer wall" of our republican citadel, to
warn the people of tho tread of tlie usurper, $1,0(
