Pursuant to authority invested in me by the United States Fuel Administration, the following maximum retail gross margins, per ton of 2,000 lbs., are hereby established for coke and coal sold to consumers in the State of South Carolina. The gross margins include the expense of delivery in purchaser's bin or cellar. Anthracite $2.25 Bituminous ( Prepared sizes) . . 2.00 Bituminous ( Run of mine, slack and screenimrs) 1.50 Coke 2.50 An extra delivery charge of 25c may be added on coal sold in less than ton lots, but not less than quarter ton lots. For example: Suppose that a retaile dealer is lawfully charging $8.00 per ton for his coal, the price to be charged by this dealer on coal sold and delivered in lots less than one ton would be arrived at as follows: Sale of 1-2 ton of coal at $8.00 $4.00 F.vtra delivery charge permitte. . .25 Price in 1-2 ton lots $4.25 Sale of 1-1 ton of coal at $8.00 $2.00 Extra delivery charge permitted .25 Price in 1-1 ton lots $2.24 The local fuel committee shall fix the retail gross margin on all coal delivered in lots of less than 500 pounds. \ reasonable allowance for dravage '-hall be made on all coal sold f. o. b. dealer ' yards. The amount of this lllowance will be determined bv each local fuel committee, anil shall be subject to revision by the State Fuel Administrator if by him deemed advisable. The maximum margin allowed in each instance is based upon and is to be added to the government price f. o. b. ears on the railroad track at destination. The dealer must unload the coal and coke front the railroad ears at his own expense. Dealers have the right to expect their customers to pay promptly for all coal and coke purchased. The dealers need the money to buy more coal, because they are on a cash basis. Two-thirds of our entire season's supply should be in the State by September first. The margins hereby established are believed to be reasonable and fair to consumers and coal dealers alike. Dealers may charge less, but cannot collect more, than the maximum gross margins allowed.-* It is farther ordered, that by the twentieth day of April, 1018, all retail coal dealers throughout the State shall post up, and thereafter maintain in their places of business, accessible n> uuMumvrs, ine government price of each kind of coal and coke handled, the maximum gross margin allowed, and the retail price. The Fuel Committee will enforce this order. These margins and this order shall take effect at 7:00 a. m., April 10th, 11K, and shall continue in force until otherwise ordered by the United States Fuel Administrator; or until modified by the Federal Fuel Administrator for South Carolina. It is not improbable that all retail gross margins will be increased on September first, and any increase allowed will continue in force throughout the winter months. Any person aggrieved by the maximum margins hereby established, may appeal to the United State Fuel Administrator by forwarding to the Legal Department, United States Fuel Administration, at Washington, a verified written petition, setting forth in detail the facts relied upon, and by forwarding a copy of such petition to the State Fuel Administrator; or by such other methods as the United State Fuel Administration may determine. Pending such appeal, the margins hereby established shall remain in full force and effect, unless and until otherwise ordered by the United States Fuel Administrator. B. B. GODCHAUX SUGAR PLANT WIPED OUT BY FLAMES Located at Reserve, La., About 10 Miles From New Orleans New Orleans, April 9?Virtually the entire plant of the Godchaux Sugar Company, Inc., located on the company's plantation at Reserve, La., about 40 miles n orthwest of here, was destroyed by fire early today, according to lenj distance telephone reports received at the company's local office. The plant was valued at about $450,000. and was considered one of the largest in Louisiana. The amount of sugar an.I material burned was not stated. The cause of the fire had not been ascertained up to noon, but it was reported that during the burning of the various buildings comprising the plant, a number of loud explosions were heard. Company chemists said there was nothing in the laboratory to cause such explosions. A new warehouse was the only building on the grounds that escaped the flames. Later the company reported the fire Oklahoma City, Okla., April 9.? William Madison Hicks, president ol the World Peace League, was tarred and feathered at Elk City, Okla., tonight and ordered to leave the county Hicks already is under federal indictment on disloyalty charges.
