on their way to Hendersonvillc,
N. C., to spend the remainder of the

The Children of the Confederacy
under the direction of Mrs. S. S. Linder
will meet Wednesday afternoon,
Auggust 15th, at the Chamber of
Commerce rooms.
Mrs. Henry McClary (Ruth Brown)
of Greeleyville passed through Union
Monday afternoon on her way to the
mountains for the remainder of tlu
summer months.
Mrs. A. T. Ravenscroft, who was
struck by lightning while ironing with
an electric iron some three weeks ago,
is now fully revived. She had a rib
broken and was wounded in the arm
by splinters when the bolt hit.
Mr. Fred Sexton, who has been in
the training camp at Ft. Oglethorpe,
returned this -week and stopped over
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T.
Sexton. He left for Florence to join
his company. He is sergeant of Co.
K. at Florence.
KILLED BY LIGHTNING.
Mule and Mare Hit by Bolt While j
Revival Goes On.
Lexington, Aug. 1.?During a severe
wind, rain and electric storm,
which passed oyer the Pond Branch
section of Ijexington, about 12 miles
south of the county seat on last Wednesday,
a mule and *nare were struck
and killed by lightning at the same
time, while revival services were being
conducted in Pond Branch church.
At the time of the stroke the Rev. J.
G. Farr of Lexington, who was assisting
in the series of meetings, was in

building was filled with smoke and
fire apparently, it is said, and for a
while consternation prevailed. The
mule and horse were both hitched to
the same tree. Roth of the animals
belonged to S. Rufus Smith, county
commissioner. They were easily
worth each.
DEATH OF A LAD.
Lawrence Daniel, the 6-year-old son
of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Reeves, died
at the home of the parents, on North
Pinekney street Tuesday and was
buried the following day at New Hope
church.
The burial service was conducted at
the Westside Baptist church by Rev.
J. B. Bozeman.
INFANT DIED.
The 14-months-old infant of Mr.
James E. Smith died at Buffalo Aujr.
6 and was buried the following day at
Mt. Lebanon.
