GRE UNI SOUTHERN INDICATOR. (Paid Advertisement) Dear Editor: I notice in the last issue of the Indicator that the Rev. T. C. Phillips, in his "Union Locals," refers to the pastor and members of Saint Paul Baptist church as being unlawful, irregular and disorderly. Now, Mr. Editor, we plead not guilty. The Saint Paul Baptist church was organized by the executive board of the Pacolet River Association after careful and prayerful consideration of all questions affecting the faith, doctrine and practice of the Baptist church. When the Pacolet River Association met in its last session with the Bethesda Baptist church at Santuck, S. C., St. Paul church sent in its application to join the Pacolet River Association. The church was then placed in the hands of the committee on new bodies and after this committee had carefully reviewed the case of St. Paul church, voted unanimously for its entrance into the association. The Pacolet River Association is one among the oldest bodies of the Baptists (colored) of this state, and its reputation for strict adherence to the doctrine and principles of the grand old church is unimpeached. Again, Mr. Editor, this Rev. T. C. Phillip was expelled from the Pacolet River Association; and he has not hoen restorer! to the COnfi dence of the brotherhood. Now tell me, is he a fit person to pass upon the Christian character of another? Corinth Baptist is one of the oldest churches of Pacolet River Association, and it has never been known to be a church of confusion, to which such eminent ministers as J. C. White, I). D., A. R. Roberson, 1>. D., and others will attest. Now, Mr. Editor, and all whom > may concern, when Rev. T. C. Phillips became pastor of Corinth church then autocratic and undemocratic rules got in the church through the management of Rev. T ,C.'Phillips, and after a year or more of confusion and strife, the members of St. Paul Baptist church to sustain the doctrine and principles of the church, and their individual character, drew out. C. church did not care to leave the Pacolet River Association to become a member of the Association of which Rev. Phillips is the "grand vizier." Bethany Baptist church of .Tonesville, S. C., is another one of the old church of Pacolet River Association, Rev. T. C. Phillips was its pastor; and as long as he remains pastor that same autocratic and undemocratic rule pervaded Bethany church. But the brethren did not "take as much for granted" as did the brethrten of Corinth, and got rid of the Rev. T. C. Phillips before he could spit the Bethany church. Now the Rev. T .C. Phillips says that "after he had rightfully excluded the pastor and members of St. Paul church" * * *. Well, I will say that the pastor and members of St. Paul church know nothing of this action, nor do the members care anything about it. Rev. T. C. said that he excluded us for leaving the church in an unlawful, irregular and disorderly way. Yes, Rev., it appeared to us at times, that the whole thing was on its way to the devil, and we thought we would leave, fearing that it might reach its apparent destination. There is yet an opportunity for the Rev. to repent of his sins and get himself straight with the brethren?they are waiting for you with open arms. Yours, C. Whitehead, Pastor St. Paul Church.
