Forest last Sunday. Quite a number
of our people attended and they report
a very pleasant day.
Mr. I>. .J. Fant spoke at the Baptist
church here Sunday morning to a
large congregation. Mr. Fant is a
very earnest speaker, and is doing
great good by his earnest talks.
Miss Marie Pettier and mother of
(Jaffney are visiting friends in our
town.
Mrs. J. Roy Fant visited friends
in Columbia last week.
Miss Jennie l.ockman has returned
from his vacation, to the delight of
iier many friends.
Mr. A. B. Parks went to the SteedTc.r^hovpital
today for treatment. We
hope he will soon return a well and
strong man.
Mr. Sam Hughey spent the weekend

New Hope, July 31.?We are having
some real summer time weather
now.
Our meeting eloped Sunday after
just a week and lots of good has been
accomplished from this meeting. We
had fine music. Mr. Kinard will put
up tent in Jonesville next week. The
soldier boys are camping there and it
is very kind of Mr. Kinard to hold his
meeting. A good many from this
community will attend the meeting,
and we hope for a good meeting.
Most all the farmers are about
through laying by.
Miss Emma Hyatt of West Springs
is visiting relatives in this community
this week.
Mrs. Wallace Lancaster of Sulphur
Springs attended the meeting at NewHope
this week.

MISS HUTCHISON WAS HOSTESS.
In honor of her visiting young cousin,
Miss Alice Arthur, of Union, Miss
Katie Hutchison entertained most cnoyably
on Friday evening, at the residence
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
David Hutchison.
The lower floor and the broad porch
were requisitioned for the merry
games of the young folks and for the
serving of the refreshing iced lemonade
and cake, which were enjoyed at
a late hour.

fine growing weather now. Crops arc
doing all that could be expected of
them and I do not think I ever saw as
big a change in crops in 80 days as
has been the past four weeks and if
conditions continue favorable tl.e next
three weeks there will be a bumper

three or four weeks all the crops
would be cut short. Farme - are
about through laying by their crops
except some late planted corn.
Fruit and watermelons are gelling
plentiful now. There will not be as
much fruit canned as ought to be as
cans are so high. Tomatoes are rotting
before they get ripe; they rot at
the blossom end. Some say a worm
is the cause. I have not examined
closely to see.
Rev. Mi\ Kelly preached a most excellent
sermon at Flat Rock S ind->\at
11 a. m. His subect was found in
10th chapter of Matthew, "Whom Do
Men Say That 1. the Son of Man.
am?" He preached over an hour and
tie said be had not said near all that
might be said. He certainly handled
the subject well. Rev. Mr. Kelly is
tvell read on history, sacred and profane.
He will begin a protracted
meeting at Flat Rock next Sunday
evening and it will continue for some
lays. All are invited to attend.
Come, if you are hard of hearing, he
will speak loud enough for you to hear
tiim.
Mr. Russel Belue of Kelton, Route
1, who is working for a constructing
company in Spartanburg county,
ame home Saturday to see his family
and returned Sunday.
The following young men left Sunday
for Spartanburg to work on government
buildings: Messrs. Paul and
Mardis Eaves, W. J. and Victor Otts,
Jesse and S. J. Gault, and others I
did not get the names of.
Miss Mary Garner is on an extended
visit to friends and jelatives in
