LOCKHART JUNCTIO> Lockhart Junction, July 23.?W have had a good ram in this sectioi since my last letter and it came in i pood time as the growing crops wer in need of it and the farmers ha< their crop work up and was ready t receive the rain. Some have laid b; while there are others that have som plowing to do yet as there is a grea deal of late planting of corn and cot ton. That will cause some late plow ing. Well, the war is still on and ther are four young men to go from thi neighborhood and they are in callinj distance of each other. These ar Messrs. T. B. Gault, W. G. White Perry Vinson and Arthur Plexicc They belong to the Coast Artillery a Jonesville and have been ordered ti report at Jonesville on July 25th b; order of their captain, F. M. Ellerbe in whom these boys have great con fidence in as their captain and leader These young men have the sympath; and prayers of many pood people am also for the whole company whereve they may go. There is a protracted meeting a New Hope church this week, conduct ed by Rev. Kinard, the evangelis preacher, and his singers and piam player, Watson and Landrum. This writer has the invitation t< come to Salem church in Cheroket county to Children's Day exercises oi the Dth of August. There will b< prominent speakers for the occasion W. F. Stevenson, M. C. and I). R Lodge will be speakers. This invita tion was given by Mr. S. J. Strain who is a subscriber to The Unioi Times and he wishes for many of th< Union county people to be there Thanks for his invitation: we will tn to be there. Misses Mary Tweetr, Maud Plex ico and Mabel Vinson from this sec tion attended the demonstration worl held at Union last week. They weri assigned to the homes of Messrs Hamhlin and James, where they en joyed their kind hospitaty and sa? they also enjoyed the demonstratior work and were well pleased with theii visit to Union. Mr. Boyce White, who has been or a few days' visit to see his fathei and mother and other relatives am friends, has returned to his work ir Richmond, Va. Mr. Fay White has prone to Spar tanburp, where he has a job. Mrs. Delia White and son Gar) went to see her father, Mr. William: Vauphan, who lives in Cherokee eoun ty but she says he has not improver in health and is very sick. Mr Vauphan has many friends ih Unior county, who are sorry to learn of his sickness. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Whitvnire, Miss Dola Shipman and Miss Bessie Masor of Jonesville visited the writer lasl Sunday eveninp. Come apain. Mr. Frank Gault of Texas, with his aister, Mrs. Bell McCaskill of Camden S. C., Mrs. Eubanks and Mrs. Lloyc Belue of Bonham visited the writer's \ home today. I was glad to see them Come again. Mr. John M. He says the corn croj: is real fine everywhere he has been Mr. Little is a progressive farmer anc merchant of Kelton and has a fine corn crop, and he has plenty of ole corn in the crib now. We don't fine many farmers with old corn in th< crib at this time. Messrs. J. L. We are soon to have a new depot it will add so much to the town. : The company is having the cana made deeper; also the banks of th canal will be built about four fee higher. We need a bridge across the rive here. I have been told all who cros the river here on Sunday have to pa the boatman. It seems to me tha is not right. The county ought t give the boatman a salary and tha he ought to see that the people ge across the river without charge o Sunday as well as other days in th week. Miss Laura Westbrooks of Black ville is visiting her sister, Mrs. C. '1 Clary. There was a large congregation a the Baptist church Sunday morniti; and evening. Dr. Whitesides is help ing the pastor in special meeting thi week. Rev. Mr. Fulton, a missionary t Japan, spoke in the I'resbyteria church Sunday evening. Mr. Fulto expects to return to Japan as soo as he can get a safe route. Mr. Tom Wright of Spartanbur has accepted a position in the com pany store. We welcome Mr. Wrigh to our town. Mrs. H. J. Kitchens, who has bee sick for several weeks, was able t attend church Sunday, to the deligh of her many friends. Mr. Joe Meggs, our garden mar says that I.ockhart's potato yield wil be large this year. Mr. Meggs is urg ing our people to plant a late gai den, and we hope they will take hi advice. The Baptist people did the hand some thing last Sunday by raisin t their pastor's salary.
