A Red Cross chapter was organized here Friday afternoon of last week, the Service League organization being merged into the Red Cross. A meeting of the Service League was called by the president, Mrs. Thomas C. Duncan, and the members unanimously voted for the change. A considerable number of others, toe-ether I with the actual members of the Service League, went into the new organization. Application for a charter had been made and granted by the proper authorities and the fifty members necessary to organize was secured and the following officers were chosen: B. F. Alston, Jr., chairman; Mrs. Thomas C. Duncan, vice chairman; Mrs. James W. Mixson, secretary; C. C. Sanders, treasurer. The executive board composed of five men and five women, was also chosen and is as follows: B. F. Alston, Jr., Jacob Cohen, W. M. Jones, Dr .Theodore Maddox and Lewis M. Rice; Mrs. T. C. Duncan. Mrs. Jacob Cohen, Mrs. L. J. Hames, Mrs. T. Perrin Kennedy and Mrs. Elias Prioleau. v ' , At this meeting a membership committee was appointed, consisting of Mrs. T. C. Jones, Miss Virginia Briggs and Miss !v n the rooma of the Chamber of Commerce for the further purpose of appointing committees necessary to perfect the organization. THURSDAY EVENING "The Old Peabody Pew" Will Be Given in the Edisonia Theatre Thursday Evening, July 12. The ladies of the Jonesville Baptist 'church will present the play entitled "The Old Peabody Pew" in the Edisonia theatre here Thursday evening, July 12, beginning at 8:20 o'clock. This play has been shown in Jonesville, Pacolet, West Springs and Trough, and was well reeived at each I place. It is an interesting story well rendered by the company. The play t< will be gi^en in the Edisonia theatre 1 here Thursday evening and at Kelly's < school house on Saturday evening of this week. The admission fee is 10 < cents for children and 15c for grown people. The proceeds from the show t will go -to the building fund of the < new Baptist church at Jonesville. The sum already netted by the ladies from ( this play is quite a good bit. Mr. J. ; iW. Washington, July 0.?Draft day will be next week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday. This is the present plan Df the War Department, it developed today. These other things also became known: 1.
