In accordance with the act, approved February 20th, 1917, creating a State Highway Department, every owner of a motor vehicle and every dealer in motor vehicles is required to register u.UU 4-U ~ Ol-t. The law provides that each owner of a motor vehicle and each dealer in motor vehicles shall make application to the State Highway Engineer for registration and license. The State Highway Engineer will furnish these application blanks on request. The law further provides that on and after the first of July that any person who drives a motor vehicle on, or along, or across any public road, or street, or highway in the State of South Carolina, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $25.00. or imprisonment for not more than 15 d^ys for each and every offense. The State Highway Engineer anxious to register these motor vehicles as fast as possible, and to cause as little inconvenience to the public as is possible, however, there are about 30,000 cars in this State to be registered, and to register this number of cars will take at least two , months of time. As there are now only about two and one-half months between now and the first of July, and as no one will be allowed to drive a motor vehicle on the public highways after the first of July unless duly licensed and registered, the State Highway Engineer desires to urge every own of a motor vehicle and every dealer in motor vehicles to make application for registration at once in order that his office may be able to complete the rflcist.ratiftn nf mnlnr wnliinlAo - _ 0 w* ..iwvvt wiaivico uy the first of July. The matter was brought to the attention of the patrons on the occasion of a lecture by Will D. Upshaw, who, together with Rev. J. D. Croft, stressed the matter. Kelly's school is to be congratulated upon this forward move. Prof. Lake, the wideawake principal of this school, is also to be commended for his efforts in this direction. Another thing agreed upon by the patrons and trustees of the school was to sign for a chautauqua course there 1 for next session. This is a decided advance for the community, and so far as we know, it is the first rural school in this section to go into such an enterprise. The whole county has entered with zest upon the movement. TO GROW MORE FOOD STUFF. South Carolina must grow food more food crops, or face absolute want within the next few months. To cure this situation the Preparedness Commission named by Governor Manning has launched a campaign for the growing of foods and the mobilization of the State's resources to meet the situation. A series of mass meetings has been arranged throughout the State, when a battery of speakers will present the cause to the people. The victory was staged on the ground which saw the great offensive of 1915 and the German loss is estimated at 30,000 killed, wounded and prisoners. The invaders were exceptionally well placed along a series of wooded heights, varying in height from 600 to 800 feet and running north along the main road from Leims to St. Hilair-Le-Grand. The Germans were well aware that an attack was coming and had'mde full preparation for it. The Greek railroad system has been finally linked up to that of the rest of Europe.
