much warmer at this writing. There
was some rain Saturday and part of
Sunday, clearing off Sunday afternoon
warm and pretty, feeling like a spring
evening, but we see how quickly things
can change: it is raining again today.
Plowing will be stopped for awhile
again.
Some say the oat crop is all killed
and some say it is partially killed,
so I think it is hard to tell just yet; (
there hasn't been enough warm weather
to bring them out, if any still live.
Some are talking of buying and sowing
over. Well, if you think you have
a half of a stand you had better leave s
them. But it is hard for the farmer 1
to know what to do. This is a hard !
hit again, when bread and all feed 1
stuff is so high. But allow me to advise,
please. If you don't sow your 1
oats over again, don't plant that lsuul <
in cotton. You had better let it lay '
out than to put it in cotton, for I do ?
believe it will be against your interest <
to plant too much cotton. If you do
you will surely make cheap cotton 1
again. As an old saying goes, "All's ^

Not long ago I met three or four 5
trood men on the streets at Jonesville 1
discussintr many things, and I joined ^

new. Two of these gentlemen were E
old Confederate soldiers. They talked *
of the war and of the Ku Klux times f
and how men told things when they ]
should not when they were being tried' 1
before the courts. Well. I told them 8
one about what a fellow told when he ^
was a witness against another one in
court in the Ku Klux times, and it *
was this: As he was asked by the 1
lawyer if he ever saw this man wear- a
ing a false face, and the witness said. r
"Yes, sir; he has it on now." I guess
you see the point. This was a man ^
with a long nose, a long face and long P
beard and was very ugly, so that was V
the false face he wore. The judge dis- 11
missed the case and told the man to c
go home, that he was not guilty. So ^
you see the fellow who was a witness P
against him was his friend and a verv
witty man. I w.*Y not old enough to ^
be a Ku Klux nor to enlist as a sol- a
dier, but my father told me these J
things and there is one thing T regret J'
that I did not make a record of what a

This writer, while travelling in the
northern part of Jonesville township 1
last week, stopped at the hospitable
home of Mr. J. J. Garner, where he (
took dinner. lie enjoyed the good
dinner which was prepared by Mrs.
Garner. "Uncle Joe," as most people
call him, is a good citizen and well
known. He is 77 years old and his '
wife is nearly as old as he is?only a
few months difference. I wish for
these good people many more years
to live.
