Garvin left Monda] morning for Wagener to spend a weel with relatives. He will return Satur flav afternoon in time to fill his pulpi at Mon-Aetna and Duck Pond churche; on Sunday morning and afternoon. Mr. L. J. Duncan spent Thanksgiv ing holidays with his parents at Edge field and visited friends at Aiken. Mr. John O'Shields has been madi hilling clerk at the Southern freigh office here, succeeding Mr. R. L. Black who has been transferred to Chester Mr. Black has been in the Union offici for the past two years. It is going to require more work to prepare the land for another crop than for many years past because the heavy rains of last ( July played havoc with terraces and hillsides and if these damages is not i attended to during the winter months it will be impossible to produce a crop on such land. Mr. J. E. Gault and the writer atI tended preaching at Elbethel church. ! in Cherokee county, last Sunday. Rev. F. C. Hickson of Gaflfney is pastor of this church. His sermon was fine and ! full of inspiration. After services we were invited to the home of Mr. John McClough, where we enjoyed a very nice dinner. Mr. and Mrs. McClough are possessed of all the nice qualities which conveys that congenial spirit of hospitality in their home. I enjoyed the trip very much and fool somewhat indebted to Mr. Gault for free transnortation. Miss Ellen Bobo of Union visited friends in this community Thanksgiving day. Miss Ruby Smith returned home yesterday after spending a week with her friend, Miss Lorene Gault, who is attending the Spartan Academv. Prof. C. C. Thornton returned Sun, day after spending the Thanksgiving holidays with friends at Lockhart. _ Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Bobo and family were visiting relatives in Union E last Saturday. Miss Francis Cole, assistant teacher at Oakland, visited relatives in ^ Spartanburg during the holidays. Mrs. O. S. Miller and daughter. Miss Bessie Miller, went to Columbia last Thursday to visit Miss Kate Miller, who is attending Draughon's Business chool. s Messrs. W. II. Taylor of Trough 1' and J .S.
