UNION AND THE U. D. C. The United Daughters of the Confederacy of South Carolina have just been delightfully entertained by the go?d people of Union. The State body was the guest of the William Wallace chapter, U. D. C., of Union, but all Union joined with the ladies of that organization in making the State meeting one of the most pleasant ever held. Spartanburg's representatives return from Union in ecstaties of praise. We understand they had "the time of their lives." The people of Union have every reason by now to know that they have given the State organization of the Daughters of the Confederacy one of the great meetings of their history.? Spartanburg Herald. The Woodmen of Jonesville lodge unveiled a monument of Mr. John Fowler Sunday afternoon at New Hope. The serv ices were well rendered. Had with t.hem a speaker from Spartanburg who ci elivered an inspiring talk. A large d rowd attended to see this beautiful monument unvelied. Thanksgiving is now" nearly with us and guess it will he observed in many ainerent ways. It is day that we should feel thankful in ^>very way for the many blessings we hvave had during the year. If it has5 been unsuccessful in many ways W'e have enjoyed blessings in different^ ways. Does it not take us back in i?'magination to the days when our pilgn'm fathers landed on the bleak New England shores and to know how thankful they were. How much more we caught to be today. v We will have at our school n^'ouse a Thanksgiving play on Thanksgiving night. Sorry we didn't get it ifn the last week's jiaper, but hope to hmive a large crowd anyway. v Our Community club meeting 'a will be at Bishop schoolhouse Friday, 'hDecember 1st, and it is hoped that ? we will have a large meeting. EGGS BOUGHT AT 24c SELL IN NEW YORK AT 43c New York, Nov. 27.?Eggs purchased in Indiana at 24 V6 cents a dozen in June sold in New York at 43 cents a dozen November 18, according to testimony developed today by the Wicks legislative committee investigating the price of foodstuffs in this State. GKOVB. ?3?< NEGROES LEAVING SOUTH FOR NORTH [" Trainload to Go From Georgia, Car From Abbeville, Society to Support Them Until Employment is Found. Spartanburg negroes said yesterday that a solid trainload of negroes is being made up in Georgia to move to the North, and that when the train passed through this State a solid carload of negroes would go from Abbeville. While the explanation of the wholesale exodus of negroes from Abbeville was not explained, it is presumed that they are leaving because H of the recent lynching which took place there. After the lynching sev- E eral negroes were run away from the B town and county and the negroes in E that section are said to be completely B demoralized. |j It is said that about six Spartan- E burg negroes have left this city within |'j the last week for the North and that y several other local negroes will go with the delegation during the coming y wceK. Information here is to the effect Bj that the negroes in one northern State 5 (the State to which the delegation is H bound next week) have formed a D league, and this league pledges itself I to support the negroes coming from I the South until the newcomers can H find some profitable employment and K repay what money has been advanced 3 them. This money, in turn, is used S for helping still other negroes to come B from the Southern States to the North. 9 People all over the South have won- I-j dered what the negroes from this sec tion would live on in the North after ft they got there, and so far as is known ft in Spartanburg, this is the first time ffl that an explanation has been ad vanced. This information was obtained yesterday from a responsible and reliable negro employed in one of the local barber shops, and is taken to be the actual truth. The Tal countries are Spain, England, Wales, OJx Ireland, Norway, the Netherlands, cos Roumania, the 48 governments of Eu- Qtj. ropean Russia, Switzerland, Canada, the United States, India, Japan, Egypt , and Tunis. A better showing is made in other grains. Nine countries report a rye Part crop and 114.8 per cent of the aver- qui age.
